The appearance of a baby is a joyful event for all family members. And the hassle of collecting a dowry for a newborn is always accompanied by a lot of positive experiences. Future mothers try to choose the best and most beautiful clothes for their child, not skimping on the necessary accessories. And the vests in the shopping list occupy the very first position.

But why, while preparing for the appearance of the crumbs, do not do needlework and, putting your love into each product, sew a vest yourself? Pregnant women will definitely like this process and bring a lot of pleasure. Moreover, sewing undershirts with your own hands is as easy as shelling pears!

Materials and tools

As a rule, flannel, chintz, baize or knitwear such as interlock and cooler are chosen for the very first clothes of the baby. It is these materials that containexclusively cotton fiber without synthetic impurities, and they make very good undershirts for newborns. The pattern for such products is also very easy to build, and to create it you will need a sheet of paper, a ruler and a pencil.

For sewing products, you will need an overlocker or a sewing machine with a zigzag, threads, knitted trim for processing cuts, buttons or buttons and, if desired, various laces.

Commonly accepted measurements

How to make a newborn baby vest template? The pattern should be a wraparound shirt with one-piece sleeves and match in size. To do this, you need to use standard measurements:

• the width of the half of the shelf - 14 cm;
• sleeve length - 15cm;
• neck depth - 1 cm for the back and 5 cm for the front;
• Width of half sleeve at the wrist - 11cm;
• the length of the entire undershirt is 30 cm.

Children's measurements may vary depending on the weight and height of the infant. Therefore, starting from the smallest values, you need to sew on a larger undershirt, adding 2-3 cm to the measurements (excluding the deepening of the neck).

Building a newborn baby vest template

The pattern is built on a half-size sheet of paper with an intended cut in the middle of the back and front. The back and front panels of the vest are distinguished by the depth of the neck and an additional five centimeters along the middle cut on the front shelf for the smell of the shirt. To build a drawing, take a sheet of paper and makenext:

• designate a right angle with rays of 30 cm down and to the side;
• on the horizontal line mark the middle (the border of the sleeve and ½ the width of the shelf);
• on the very corner designate the neck for the back and for the shelf;
• from the point on the horizontal line they drop perpendicularly down by 6 cm, and from the point of the border of the sleeve and the shelf by 8 cm and connect the marks with a line, defining the seam of the sleeve;
• from the last point they go down at a right angle and draw a side cut (if desired, it can be slightly expanded to the bottom);

At this stage, we can consider the basis for sewing undershirts ready.

Increasing the size of the vest

How to sew a different size baby undershirt? The pattern in this case does not require changes. Just when transferring to the fabric, it is necessary to circle the template along the contour, stepping back from the borders of the workpiece by 2-3 cm.

You may also need to slightly widen the neckline, depending on the body type of the baby. As a rule, the neck is made wide enough so that the fabric does not rub the delicate skin of the baby.

Simulation

If you wish, you can slightly change the pattern of the vest for newborns. Patterns of such a shirt can be with a fastener on the side or with a smell like a kimono with ties. Naturally, this option will be more convenient, since it involves an almost double front part of the vest. While the regular model constantly swings open, as it is held only by a ribbon at the neck, the "kimono" willmore practical, and the baby's breast will always be closed.

In the version with a side fastener, children's undershirts are made with a big smell. The front shelf consists of two parts (in a mirror image) with a slit from the shoulder to the bottom and a fastener with a button, tie or button directly on the shirt shoulder, both on the inside of the smell and on the outside. With such a cut, no matter how the baby spins, the vest will always close his little body and will not swing open.

Product processing

It is clear with the cut, but how to sew a vest so that it is pleasant to the body and does not cause discomfort to the baby? It is customary to process such things with a seam outward. That is, the processing of sections is carried out according to the face of the product. Thus, all possible prickly elements are excluded, since the cuts of the canvas and overcasting do not touch the child's body.

To make such a product look presentable, it is best to use an overlocker. Quite often, professional seamstresses use a unit called a carpet lock for sewing such things. It is an indispensable machine for knitwear. However, if there is no such sewing equipment, you can get by with a regular lockstitch machine and process the cuts with a linen seam or zigzag.

The bottom of the vest and sleeves, as well as the cut of the shelves, can be processed with an oblique trim from a thinner fabric or knitted braid.

Decorative treatment

It is clear that every mother wants her baby to have beautiful clothes, and therefore manyare ditching the usual flannel and chintz garments in favor of brighter and more colorful market pieces. However, if you sew undershirts with your own hands, you can dream up a little and make the products elegant using lace and ribbons.

For example, calico stitching with an embossed pattern and embroidery will make an excellent collar and cuffs for a little fashionista, and soft knitted lace can easily turn into a frill on the chest of a baby's undershirt. Also, do not forget about such decorative elements as stripes, applications and thermal transfers. Thanks to the decoration, it is easy to make original undershirts. The size of the shirt, although small, can become a real work of art in the hands of a loving mother.
