Mohair hats are fluffy, voluminous and very warm. The knitting process is simple and does not require special skills: even a novice craftswoman can easily cope with this task. All it takes is a few skeins of yarn, the right needles and a little patience.

Features of mohair knitting

Mohair is made from the wool of a special breed of goat, it has a long silky pile, pleasant to the touch. Due to the special structure of the hairs, the yarn does not roll and does not wrinkle during wear, it retains its volume and beautiful appearance for a long time. Products are very warm, and thanks to the fluffy structure, the thread consumption is very small.

For knitting a mohair hat with two lapels, you will need approximately 150 grams of yarn and knitting needles No. 3, 5-4. If you need to get a warmer and more voluminous product, you can knit in two or three threads, and also take knitting needles a few numbers larger. To emphasize the beautiful fluffy texture, the knitting should be loose and the loops should be loose.

Calculation of loops for a hat

In order for a mohair hat to fit, you need to take measurements correctly andcalculate the number of loops. Each craftswoman gets a different knitting density, so it's best to make your own calculation:

1. Take a centimeter tape and use it to measure the circumference of the head above the eyebrows, and then subtract 2-3 cm from the resulting figure. This is necessary so that the hat sits tight enough and does not fall off, because the product will stretch slightly.
2. Then cast on 25 stitches and knit a 10 cm swatch using the pattern you chose. A 2 x 2 ribbing mohair hat looks nice, but you can choose any other pattern you like.
3. Measure how many stitches are in 1 cm of knitting, then multiply this figure by the volume of the head, and the result will be the required number of stitches for the hat.

For example, if the volume of the head is 53 cm, and the knitting density is 2 loops per 1 cm, the calculation will be as follows:

(53-3) x 2=100

Getting Started:

• To make a seamless mohair hat, you will need circular needles. Cast on 100 stitches, slip the first stitch as usual without knitting, and then knit one row in 2 x 2 Rib: knit 2 alternately, then purl 2.

Finishing the product

The finished hat must be processed correctly, otherwise it will look sloppy. No pressure should be exerted on mohair products tied with an elastic band, otherwise the canvas will turn out flat and lose all its beauty. Therefore, it is categorically not recommended to carry out heat treatment with an iron. Lightly sprinkle the cap with water from all sides, it is convenient to use a regular spray bottle for this. Then put the product on a small jar or vase and wait until it dries completely. As a result, the loops will align, and the long pile will fluff up beautifully. You can additionally comb the product with a soft clothes brush.

A beautifully knitted mohair hat is ready! Fold the edge in two additions and you can put on a new thing. If desired, you can wear it with one lapel, so it also turns out very stylish.
