A new dress can cure a woman of depression, cheer up, make a cloudy day sunny and joyful. A hand-sewn dress from a famous fashion designer will also give you confidence in your abilities and your irresistibility.
The dress-cocoon fits perfectly on any figure: ladies of outstanding sizes hide flaws and give the figure lightness and harmony, thin and fragile girls give flexibility and weightlessness, short ones are pulled up in height and slim.
The uniqueness of this dress is in the cut. Properly selected material, as well as the length of the dress and the volume of the cocoon, can turn every girl into a real queen. The material suitable for the dress should also be appropriate for the season and the occasion it will be worn.
The cocoon dress, the photo of which is presented in our article, looks different in different variations.
This version of a classic dress can be easily sewn on your own. You will need fabric at the rate of 2.8 lengths (product length x 2 + allowance for the volume of the hem). The width should be equal to the width of the product x 2, 2 + allowance for splendor. Based on these parameters, the fabric should be enough to sew one cocoon dress with moderatefull skirt and mid-calf length.
Required Materials
First of all, it is important to choose the material for sewing the dress. Due to the specific cut, the fabric must be such that it holds the shape of the cocoon below well. For this fit tweed, wool. The dress will be tight and warm. If you use chiffon or silk, you can get a light and unusual design, hiding in the folds.
Pattern: building and taking measurements
To sew a cocoon dress to fit perfectly, you need to take measurements:
- OSH - neck circumference.
- DP - shoulder length (from neck to shoulder line).
- SH - chest height.
- OB - hip circumference.
- CI - product length.
There are several options for tailoring the dress. You can sew a cocoon dress from Gucci using an old knitted T-shirt. To do this, you need to perform several actions.
Steps of building a pattern
1) The T-shirt is folded in half, and neck and shoulder measurements are taken from it. If there is no T-shirt, then it is necessary to take measurements and make calculations: 1/6 OSH + 0.5=throat width. The resulting size is divided into 3 parts, the height of the back is obtained. 1 cm is added to this size, and the height of the neck for the shelf is obtained.
To build a shoulder, you need to set aside 8 cm from the point of the base of the neck and 2.9 cm perpendicularly down. A line is drawn through this point and through the point of the base of the neck, it is continued further until it is will be equal to the shoulder length measured earlier (DL).
2) Down from the bottom pointneck, a measurement of chest height (SH) is postponed and added up to 15 cm. Depending on the addition, the volume of the dress changes. The larger the increase, the more voluminous the product will be. For orientation on the photo on the dress, an increase of 10 cm.
A horizontal line is being drawn. The end of the shoulder line is connected to the horizontal in such a way that the resulting line passes at 45 ° to the resulting horizontal.
On the back, along the midline, the length of the dress is laid down, 1/4 OB is laid aside. The point that will turn out is connected to the horizontal line of the chest.
3) The lines of the drawing with the neck for the shelf drawn are copied and then cut along the horizontal line of the chest. One part is attached in a mirror image to the line of the sleeve, the second is attached to the side. The lines are rounded. Then 15 cm are measured from the corner of the sleeve in two directions. At the points obtained, the sleeve holes will end. Then allowances of 1 cm are added along all cut lines. From 2 to 4 cm is added to the bottom line, depending on how the edge will be processed.
When the pattern is drawn, it remains to sew a cocoon dress.
Square pattern
Using a simple technique, you can draw a cocoon dress without taking measurements.
To work, you will need a large sheet of paper on which the pattern will be drawn.
First, a 76 x 101 cm rectangle is drawn. Then the corners of the rectangles are cut off.
The upper bold horizontal line is equal to the length of the shoulder, the distance from the vertical line to the starting point of the shoulder line is equal to the width of the chest from the point of the middle of the chest to the point where the neck and shoulder join together.
The resulting halves are sewn first from the back, then along the chest.
To form a sleeve cut, sharp corners are cut off from the new shape, which turned out after stitching.
Using this method, it is easy to sew a cocoon dress, the pattern does not need precise measurements and drawings. This dress is loose, voluminous and cozy.
Features of the model
The peculiarity of this dress model is that the sleeve is one-piece. During the construction of the pattern, the sleeve sleeve is drawn simultaneously with the dress. It is possible to sew a sleeve into a cocoon dress using the shoulder seam, while there is no need to draw a hard shoulder seam. In this embodiment, the fabric easily falls on the shoulder, due to which the appearance of a cocoon is created. In the classic model from "Gucci", the back of the product is made slightly bent forward, while the sleeve is obtained only in front, and the cocoon is formed due to the specificity of the pattern.
Dress hem
Using the pattern construction option described above, you can sew a dress in which the hem automatically wraps down, forming a cocoon.
In order to sew a dress based on an old T-shirt, for example, you need to separately draw the bottom of the product.
To do this, draw a trapezoid, widthwhich on the upper base is equal to the width of the product, and the side is equal to the desired length of the hem (measured from the waist to the desired length of the product down). The angle of inclination of the side of the trapezoid depends on whether the bottom will be lush or not.
The resulting trapezoid is placed with a large base down and the lower base is divided into 4 equal sections. In each section, a triangle is cut out with a base of 3 cm and a height of 1/3 of the length of the product from the waist. The sides of the triangles are sewn along the lines obtained. Due to the fact that small sections of fabric are cut out, the hem of the dress will wrap down, forming a barrel shape. A cocoon dress should look harmonious, so do not make too many cuts - a barrel effect can be created - such a hem will cut off the growth and give a roundness to the figure.
Decoration
You can decorate a cocoon dress. The pattern from "Gucci" contains the dimensions of only the main elements. And to make the model unusual, you can sew, for example, pockets.
First, the pocket model and its location are selected. They can be both external and internal, lined or unlined. Pockets are made on the valve, hidden (in the seam of the product), with a detachable side.
Welt pocket
The most convenient option for a cocoon dress is a welt pocket. Make it quickly, but it looks very discreet. In addition, it is convenient to store a trifle or a phone in such a pocket, due to the model of the dress, the hem of the product will not bulge.
The shape of the pocket is most often a rectangle with slightly rounded edges.
To make a welt pocket to the product from the wrong side, the front part (pattern) is applied and stitched inside. Then a cut is made, not reaching 1 cm to the end, and oblique notches are made on the sides. The facings are turned up and down, and small triangles are adjusted.
After that, burlap is applied from the wrong side, which serves as the pocket itself. The burlap is superimposed on the bottom facing, while the seams are combined. Then the pair is ironed and the sections are ground down.
It turns out a hidden convenient pocket.
