Weaving an owl from rubber bands: detailed instructions
Weaving an owl from rubber bands: detailed instructions

Weaving an owl from rubber bands is perhaps one of the most exciting types of creativity. The process is much more complicated than making template bracelets, and much more interesting: a large night bird is woven using the amigurumi technique and, as a result, will not be a nondescript flat figure, but a real bright toy made of everyone's favorite multi-colored rubber bands.

To create a wonderful gift and just a beautiful toy, you will need a whole set of Fanny Lum rubber bands (about 500 pieces, colors - to your taste), as well as a hook and filler (holofiber will do).

First stage

  • Any scheme for weaving an owl from elastic bands implies the initial production of a ring, for which you will need seven rubber bands. Throw the first "Fanny Lum" on the hook and wrap around it twice to make three rings. Pull the next elastic through these loops without removing them from the hook.
  • Throw the other side of the elastic on the hook and make a knot by stretching the left half"Fanny Lum" through the right. Don't over tighten.
  • Insert the hook through the three loops again and pull through the next rubber band. Throw the other half on the tool. Pull the first loop on the hook first through the second, then sequentially through the third.
  • Introduce the hook again through three ring loops. Stretch another rubber band. Throw the second half on the hook, then pass through the first loop on the left.
  • Repeat the previous steps until you have braided all the rubber bands to the end. You will get a small ring with a chain of six loops. This is the initial weaving of an owl from rubber bands. You have the first row of the canvas of the toy ready.

Second stage

The second row consists of a dozen "Fanny Lum", each of which is brought into the loop twice. To understand the sequence of actions, the scheme of weaving from rubber bands will help you. Owls on the loom are not as voluminous as on a simple hook, so to create a real big toy, continue to follow the instructions.

  • First, join the loops together, hooking through the first loop after the one you just cast on. Stretch each rubber band in the same way as in the first step. When counting the rubber bands on the second row, there should be twelve of them.
  • Scheme: 2-2-2-2-2-2.

Third stage

  • The third row consists of 18 rubber bands. Weave according to the scheme: 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2. Weave the rubber band through the first link twice, through the next - only once.
  • Ifstretch the resulting weave, it will be possible to check how many times the rubber band is threaded into the loop - so you can figure out the number of elastic bands and loops if you suddenly get confused in the pattern.

Fourth stage

  • Owl rubber band weaving will soon come to an end. To start the fourth row, weave "Fanny Lum" according to the scheme 1-1-2 - this way you will increase the diameter of the circle. Take 24 more rubber bands and follow the pattern: 1-1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2. Next, braid the circle, winding the hook once in each of the links. Make as many rows as you need to make the toy in the size you want.
  • Stuff the owl with filler, then join the edges of the top side. To do this, pull the last remaining loop through the adjacent ones and make a knot, then repeat with the next row of loops.

How to make a beak

Take a rubber band in a contrasting color and wind it around the hook so that you get three loops. Pull two new rubber bands through them. Take two more "Fanny Lum" and pull through the resulting ring on one side, and throw the other half of these elastic bands back onto the hook. Then return to the hook the pair of loops on which the three rings are fixed. Through this pair of loops, weave two rubber bands. There should be eight loops on the hook. Take an elastic band and throw all the loops on it. The beak can now be fixed on the toy.

Eyes and ears

Weaving an owl from rubber bands is almost complete - only eyes remainand ears. Black eyes are woven in the same way as the first ring for the bird itself (see the first stage). To make the outer white part, take two white Fanny Looms and weave them two at a time, into each loop of the black ring. Subsequently, bring the black loop to the wrong side - this will be the attachment to the toy.

You don't need to weave the ears - just cut a few colored rubber bands and tie them in knots. Instead of rubber bands, you can use small pieces of serpentine or decorative tape made of synthetic material.

You have made a homemade rubber toy "Fanny Lum". You can give it to a loved one, or you can weave a whole collection of owls of different colors and sizes and make all your friends happy with a pleasant surprise.
