A warm sweater knitted from high-quality yarn can warm and decorate us even on the most cloudy and dank day. Instead of freezing in autumn or winter in huge hoodies and countless acrylic vests, it is enough to get one solid wool product and forget about discomfort.

Why yarn quality matters

Many beginner knitters who choose material by eye and not by the data on the label make the same common mistake: they buy acrylic. Visually, it can look like cotton, viscose, wool or even mohair. However, this does not change the fact that acrylic is a man-made fiber. It does not have the properties of the materials it imitates.

Acrylic yarn can be chosen for making products that will not be used often (dolls, decor, disposable costumes). If you plan to create clothes, you should take care that the thread does not roll, does not stretch, does not deform and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Knitting a women's sweater with acrylic needles is the same ascook a festive dinner from instant vermicelli: efforts are spent, and the result is deplorable. One thing is good - the money is saved. However, the value of such savings is questionable.

Acrylic clothing is usually either very hot or cold, does not let air through and causes discomfort (especially if it is an imitation of mohair).

From what then to knit a women's sweater with knitting needles?

There is a huge amount of decent yarn for making a variety of garments. Their price is determined by the quantity and quality of the natural fibers that make up the material.

Among the woolen yarns, alpaca and merino are the leaders. These yarns are the warmest and most durable, and can be 100% yarn or blended with cotton, acrylic, viscose, bamboo or nylon.

An excellent warm sweater will be made from threads based on sheep's wool. For winter products, you can use both a completely woolen thread and a blended one (at least 50% wool). The thickness of the material can be completely different: from 100 m/100 g to 400-500 m/100 g.

If a craftswoman plans to knit a women's sweater with a braid pattern, then the optimal yarn thickness is in the range of 200-350 m / 100 g. Absolutely any thread is suitable for knit and purl patterns.

Pattern location

The most popular is the classic placement of patterns on sweaters: a strip of braids on the details of the front and on the sleeves. Enthusiasts also decorate the back of the sweater.

Products with non-standard placement of decorative elements look interesting and unusual. For example, braids that go from one sleeve to another, as in the photo presented in our article.

The model with an ornament only on the sleeves and on the neck also looks original. To emphasize this technique, the craftswoman used different types of yarn: she used fluffy angora for the main details, and knitted braids from bulky wool.

The photo in our article also shows a sweater, most of which is covered with braids (they are also plaits, they are also aran).

Here, there are classic braids with a small number of loops, and intricate six-strand ornaments that form a Celtic weave. Their combination looks extremely organic, so when creating this model, it is better to stick to the given arrangement of elements.

This sweater - youth, women's - is knitted from yarn with a thickness of about 160-200 m / 100 g. For a size 44 product, at least 500 g will be required.

All parameters on the patterns available later in the article are indicated in inches, numbers for knitting in different sizes are given in brackets. If there is only one number, then this parameter is relevant for all sizes.

The diagrams clearly show the direction in which the loops should be crossed, so there is no need to decipher all the icons and designations. Empty cage - facial loop (L),cell with a dot - purl (I).

Each craftswoman will knit a women's sweater with knitting needles from her own yarn with unique parameters (thickness, density, twist), so it makes no sense to indicate the knitting density for the product in the photo. It will help few people, only confuse.

Loop calculation

To determine the density of knitting of the selected pattern, the knitter should make a small fragment using her material and pattern. After it is washed and dried, you can judge how many loops and rows there are per 10 cm of fabric.

For example, a 10x10 cm square is formed by 22 loops and 18 rows. Based on these data, the number of loops for the type-setting edge of the product should be calculated. For example, to get a canvas with a width of 44 cm, you need to dial 44x22 / 10 \u003d 97 loops (plus 2 edge loops, total 99 loops).

In the event that the loops in the pattern are tooa lot for knitting a fabric of the selected size, the ornament can be reduced by removing the extreme elements. By the reverse method (by adding several braids), the part is expanded. If you wish, you can also increase the size by making the stripes in a double pattern.

Production of sleeves

Cast on 60 sts and work 2 inches in ribbing, then start shaping. Edge, 8 loops in double pattern, 2 I, braid S, 2I, 1 L, 2 I, scheme A, 2 I, 1L, 2 I, braid C, 2 I, 9 loops in double pattern.

The expansion of the fabric is achieved by adding one loop at the beginning and at the end of the row at regular intervals. The number of rows to add to the craftswoman should be calculated independently.

Finished parts should be washed in warm water (in no case in hot, otherwise the wool will shrink), spread out and dried. Then side seams are made and sleeves are sewn in.

At the last stage, the neck is knitted. Loops for it can be dialed from the edges of the parts of the front and back on circular knitting needles or knitted separately and sewn with a knitted stitch.

When creating women's sweaters with knitting needles, you can do anything with patterns. So, if the craftswoman does not need such a large number of arans, she may well leave only the central large braid, and tie the rest of the fabric with a double pattern.
