Do you like to cook cakes? Do you like decorating your sweet creations? If yes, then learn how to make a fondant flower so that your cakes become real masterpieces in the future.

All you need for this creativity is to learn the technology of preparing sweet mass for modeling and a little imagination. And although your products, like any other cooking, will be "an art that lives only a moment", still try to master it.

Mastic recipe

For those confectioners who are just starting to learn how to make a flower from mastic, a simpler and more convenient option for work is recommended - milk mastic.

• Mix milk and powdered sugar in a ratio of 1:1.

• Add the same amount of condensed milk. All ingredients are equal.

• You can add a little food or natural coloring to give a certain shade.• Knead the mixture until you achieve a consistency similar to baby clay.

Try to remember the school lessons where you learned to sculpt various figures from plasticine. Proceed in the same order.

  • Spread cling film on the table and roll out the mastic into a thin layer. It can be sprinkled with a little powdered sugar.
  • Cut out petal circles and other necessary details using either a sharp knife or a small cutter (a shot glass or similar base will do).
  • Shape three-dimensional elements by joining together the two sides of the petal at the base.
  • Dry the blanks.

If you notice that the mastic flower sticks to your hands while working, add some powdered sugar. To prevent the mass from drying out, wrap it in a film or parchment. Experienced confectioners advise not to get carried away with a large number of mastic details so that the cakes are not harsh. Since milk fondant has a natural creamy yellow tint, you can try another recipe for sweet mass if you want to make a soft blue or pink fondant flower.

There are subtleties here. Because gelatin mastic is more capricious, as confectioners like to say, you need to “feel” it.

• Take 10 gr. gelatin, soak it in water (ten tablespoons) for an hour.

• Heat the composition in a water bath so that the gelatin is completely dissolved.

• Wait until it cools.

• In cool gelatin, but stillliquid, gradually add 900 gr. powdered sugar. Make sure that the mass is well kneaded.

• Now roll out a very thin part of the mastic on the film (you need to sprinkle it with powdered sugar).

• Tear off fragments and use a regular teaspoon to form petals (for example, tulip) using its inner surface. Do the same for the other spoons. Collect the dried elements directly on the cake. If you understand the technology of how to make a flower from mastic, then other cake decoration elements (for example, animals, houses, figurines, openwork fragments) will no longer present difficulties for you. Good luck!
