It was designed to create the illusion that the folds gracefully appear on the fabric, luxuriously decorated with fringes, ribbons, bows, beads.

The meaning of modern lambrequin

The lambrequin has changed a lot today, but its meaning has remained the same, however, it now decorates windows, not beds. Its ability to visually narrow or expand the space is actively used by designers in interior design. Various technologies for creating amazing shapes allow you to make any place in the house, halls, beautiful, spectacular and unique.

Pelmets are soft and hard. Both types are popular: having come into fashion relatively recently in a new role, they have conquered their niche in the market with ease and, it seems, will never leave it. After all, a variety of styles and types of elegant designs givescompleteness to any interior.

Soft designs include shapes created from curtain fabric. They are formed by tying up a fabric web, tucks of various shapes, and the formation of folds. Such lambrequins are called soft. Their types are divided into swags (semicircular sagging), frills (corrugated symmetrical and asymmetrical fans), ties and puffs. Sometimes a combination of several types of lambrequins forms magnificent air structures. The main types form many subspecies: bells, buds, awnings, and lambrequin designs in the form of arches, cuffs, an unusual type of curtains make the interior perfect. Figured lambrequins (they are also called openwork) - the most complex type of lambrequin. But its unsurpassed elegance often serves as the very nuance and highlight in the interior of almost any room.

What is a curly lambrequin

This type of lambrequin can be either openwork or cut from a single piece of fabric. You can make curly lambrequins with your own hands, the creation process will require sewing skills and artistic taste. For a solid canvas construction, it is enough to measurethe length of the desired pelmet, make the pattern correctly, and then attach it to the cornice.

How to make a pattern?

The base of the figured lambrequin should be dense, interlining is perfect for this purpose. It is translucent enough to apply the pattern you have chosen on it. You can make a pattern by enlarging the drawing from a millimeter scale to the required size. There are also special computer applications that make it more convenient.

When cutting the fabric according to the pattern, you need to use pins so that the fabric does not move out and wrinkle.

The finished pattern with allowances, transferred to interlining, is ironed with steam, this will allow the adhesive base to evenly distribute the fabric over the workpiece.

If you chose an elegant openwork pattern for the lambrequin, it is carefully cut out with a guilloche soldering iron.

Rigid-based lambrequins are a good solution for not the most beautiful cornice, they hide the shortcomings of the transition from placing the curtains on the cornice to the ceiling, the flaws of the cornice, if any. Attaching it is very simple, just remove the film from the adhesive surface and carefully attach it to the cornice. Loops can be used if the cornice is not straight, but round (i.e. has a round section).

Openwork lambrequins, beingexquisite detail in the visual design of the room, can be used to visually increase the window area or reduce it (if, for example, the room needs to be zoned).

Geometry and colors

The location of the curly lambrequin depends on how you want to transform the space. You can attach it in the central part of the cornice and focus on symmetry. Also, a figured lambrequin will look good in one of the corners if the room is small. Both corners highlighted with lambrequins can be either symmetrical or asymmetrical, depending on the desired effect.

Figured lambrequin is often chosen as a contrast to the main color scheme of walls and curtains. If the interior is the same in several rooms, lambrequins of the same type can emphasize this direction. It can be made small to create corner decorative elements or several elements of the same type for the entire length of the cornice.
