Probably all needlewomen who knit with needles love openwork patterns: airy, light, beautiful. Openwork knitting is used not only to create shawls, stoles and scarves, but also cardigans, jumpers, dresses. The products are very light, refined, and show the skill of the knitter in the best possible way.

One of the common openwork patterns is the “Leaves” knitting pattern (a diagram with a description will be below). There are many variations of this pattern, consider several schemes with detailed descriptions.

Yarn and tools for openwork patterns

You always need to know where to start knitting. The Leaves pattern is no exception. It starts with the choice of yarn and knitting needles. The most beautiful openwork patterns look in a thin canvas, that is, knitted from fine yarn. Summer things can be knitted from cotton or linen yarn. Products are light and not "hot". The lace looks very beautiful and impressive from a silk thread, the canvas acquires a light noble sheen. From yarn with the addition of silk, you can knit a product belonging to the evening groupoutfits, such as a black openwork bolero for an evening dress or a low-cut top for a women's tuxedo.

In winter and autumn, the “Leaves” knitting pattern (the diagram for which will be later) is best done from woolen and half-woolen yarn. It is warm and, despite the openwork, will keep you warm. For such patterns, mohair is ideal. This is goat wool yarn, very soft, fluffy, airy. Mohair yarn does not exist in its pure form, so it always comes in a mixed composition, for example, with acrylic or silk. Mohair makes beautiful shawls, stoles, dresses with fluffy skirts.

Knitting needles for knitting openwork patterns, choose the right ones for the yarn. The recommended number is always written on the label by the manufacturer. But if you want a lighter and more airy fabric, take one or two numbers more knitting needles. Be sure to knit a sample to know how the product will behave during wear and after wet heat treatment.

The principle of knitting "Leaves"

Patterns for knitting with leaves are obtained on the canvas by alternating crochets and two or three loops, knitted together with a slope in one direction or another. First comes the expansion of the pattern, then the narrowing. It is usually symmetrical about the middle. The pattern repeat is usually 10 to 15 rows high. That is how many of them will be needed to knit a full-fledged leaflet.

Pattern knitting "Leaves" with a description and diagrams you will see below. Read the description carefully and you'll be fine! Do not tighten the loops too tightly so that the ornament does notdeformed, but do not knit too loosely so that the product does not lose shape during wear.

Diamond-shaped "Leaves"

One of the easiest options. Knitting pattern "Leaves" (scheme in the photo for a beige pattern) consists of diamond-shaped leaves arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

The repeat is 15 rows high and 10 stitches wide.

  • First row - 2 front loops, then two loops together, tilted to the right side (that is, behind the front wall), then there is a crochet, one front, again a crochet, two together, tilted to the left, now 3 front. Rapport finished.
  • Second, and all even rows are knit according to the pattern, that is, purl loops. Nakida are also knitted purl. If you knit in a circle, closing the pattern in a ring, then even rows are knitted according to the pattern with facial loops.
  • Third row - one facial (LR), 2 together with inc. to the right side, one LP, then yarn over (N), knit one knit, make N, 1 LP, two together with inc. to the left side, 2 LP.
  • Fifth row - 2 cm. with tilt to the right side, two LP, N, 1 LP, now nakid, one more facial, 2 vm. with tilt to the left side, 1 LP.
  • Seventh row - 3 LM, N, 1 LM, N, 3 LM.
  • Ninth row - start with yarn over, then two loops together with a slope to the left side, then five LPs, two P. with a slope to the right, again yarn over, LP.
  • Eleventh R. - N, 1 LM, two with inc. to the left, 3 LP, two with incl. right, 1 LR, N, 1 LR.
  • Thirteenth R. - yarn over, 2 LP, two loops vm. withincl. to the left, front, two together with incl. right, 2 LR, N, 1 LR.
  • Fifteenth P - H, three facial loops, 3tog, 3 facial, N, 1 LP.

The pattern rapport is ready. Repeat from the first row, just remember to shift the pattern 10 loops to the side.

What to tie?

Now that your collection has replenished with schemes with leaflets, the question remains: what to do using these patterns forknitting?

Most often, these openwork ornaments are used in knitting stoles or scarves. Due to the fact that the pattern goes from top to bottom, it is more suitable for elongated products. A knee-length dress will also look very nice. A vertical pattern will visually stretch the figure, and therefore slim. For a long summer skirt, the pattern is also well suited. Get a thing in the peasant style, which becomes relevant every summer.
