Lens alignment can be broken for various reasons. What to do in this case? How do I get my pictures back to their former sharpness and clarity?

Types of problems

One of the most common causes is poor autofocus. It can be the result of active or prolonged use of technology, but it also occurs on new devices.

Another possible reason is a malfunction in the autofocus of the lens itself. This is found on many models, especially for cameras with a zoom function. Moreover, violations can be different at large and small focal lengths.

Reasons for lens alignment:

• Incorrect factory alignment.
• Lens "blurring", increased gaps and backlash during long-term use.
• Falls and bumps.

Note that Canon lens alignment is not always required. Sometimes there is a "glitch" due to a particular type of artificial lighting. That is, autofocus goes into overshoot or shortfall. More often, such features are noticeable when energy-saving lamps are turned on.

To test this, place your camera on a tripod, then aim at a ruler at a 45 degree angle. Snapshotsshould be done with autofocus. Only energy-saving lamps should be turned on. Then let only incandescent lamps provide illumination. With a high probability, you will see a flight in the pictures with energy-saving devices.

The service centers say that modern models are less susceptible to this phenomenon. Fighting this defect is useless and pointless. In addition, it usually does not create tangible difficulties when shooting.

How can the lens alignment be restored?

The most reliable and correct way is to contact a specialized service center. Moreover, both the "carcass" and the lens are adjusted. If your camera is still under warranty, this procedure will cost you nothing. If not, you will pay a relatively small amount.

Usually this manipulation takes a week. But financial incentives for servicemen can bear fruit. It is quite realistic that they can do it in a day.

The second way that lens alignment can be done is by adjusting the "carcass" setting. But in some new cameras, this option is no longer available. There is a chance that you will be able to change something. But to do this in practice is very difficult. Not to mention cases where you need to adjust a zoom lens that has different out-of-focus issues at different distances. In such cases, this method will not help exactly.

But if you need Sigma, Tamron or Tokina lens alignment, this isacceptable way. After all, there are no intelligent specialists working with such devices in Russia. Or they are extremely hard to find.

But remember that this process is labor intensive. In addition, autofocus is largely affected by the temperature and type of target. It is unlikely that you will be able to recreate the laboratory conditions that are in the service center.

Of course, you can also make the settings yourself. But doing this is not recommended. You are more likely to damage the equipment than to set something up.
