After the end of the process of knitting a sweater, dress or any other product, all its details must be connected. But this is not done with a sewing machine, because. its stitching is not elastic, and the threads are sure to break when the knitted parts are stretched. For stitching knitted elements, special knitted seams are used. There are several types of them. They are performed by different methods, tools and threads. Most often, special needles for wool or for embroidery with a blunt tip are used.

Preparing parts for stitching

Before you perform a knitted seam, all elements of the product must be given the correct shape after knitting. This is done through heat treatment. To avoid deformation of knitted parts during ironing, they are pre-attached with pins to the pattern. Remember that products made of woolen yarn and synthetics should be steamed through cotton fabric, andfrom half-woolen, linen and cotton - carefully iron. Attention! The heat treatment process is always done from the wrong side, and the rubber bands should not be touched at all so that they do not stretch.

Knit stitch "loop in loop"

Used for joining stocking stitch pieces. The main advantage of this method is invisibility. These knitted seams are made with the threads from which the product is knitted. The open loops of one part are sewn from right to left with the loops of another. The thread is fastened from the wrong side of the upper part. Also, a needle is inserted from the inside into the first loop. Then the thread should pass along the front side of the lower part through the first loop, then through the second loop from the inside of the lower part. The thread is again wound into the upper first loop from the front side, then from the wrong side, into the upper second loop, etc.

Vertical seam

Vertical stitching of parts is done from the front side. The left wall of the loop of one element and the right loop of the second are alternately captured. In garter stitch knitted stitches "lacing" are used. The needle is inserted between the last two loops, under the horizontal thread of the first part, then under the transverse thread of the second. Stitches are sewn in the horizontal direction.

Kettelny seam

Used for edging the edges of products and connecting inlays, trims, pockets, etc. A strip 3 cm wide is immediately knitted, after which it is applied and tacked onto the part

from the front side so that the edges of the element go under the strip by about 0.3 cm. To do this, you need a thread with a length equal to three finishing stripes. The needle is inserted into the second loop from the inside, then into the first loop from the top, and the thread is pulled through the third loop from the bottom up. Then again the needle is inserted into the second loop, but from above, and pulled through the fourth loop from the bottom up. This seam is also called "back needle". Before sewing knitted knitted seams, it is necessary to steam the loops very carefully in order to avoid them "running away" in the process of joining parts.
