Adhesive applications

One of the simplest and at the same time affordable options for fixing a picture on a piece of clothing is to stick it. Shops for needlewomen are simply teeming with all sorts of patterns, flowers, animals and other decorative elements on an adhesive basis. Therefore, with the choice of problems should not be. Choose the picture you like - and go ahead, get to work!

After choosing the desired application for clothes and deciding on the thing on which you would like to place it, prepare an iron and a thin cotton cloth. Then just put the application on the product, put a fabric on top for greater protection and iron it thoroughly with a heated iron for a couple of minutes. Since hot glue is applied to the back of the picture, when heated, it will give adhesion to the fabric and firmly fix on the clothes. For a better grip, we recommend ironing the item from the wrong side as well.

How to make a sequin appliqué

If you want not just a cute drawing, but a real appliqué with sequins on clothes, you can choose one of the most suitable options. In the case of thermal imaging, you will also need a protective cloth and an iron. The gluing technique is exactly the same, the only difference is that the temperatureiron should be slightly lower, about 160 degrees. Since the beaded and sequined appliqué is heavier than the regular fabric appliqué, we recommend that you additionally sew it to the garment with at least a few stitches on each side.

If you want to make a sequin appliqué with your own hands, then prepare the following:

  • sequins in different colors;
  • glue;
  • threads.

After coming up with the picture you want to get, draw a detailed sketch on paper. Pick the right colors. Then draw an outline of the image on the clothes. And start sewing sequins. How to sew them correctly, you can see in the picture below.

How to make applique details

In case the proposed options for decorating clothes with appliqué did not suit you, you can make it yourself. To do this, you will need fabrics of various textures, threads, glue gossamer, scissors, cardboard.

First, we decide on a sketch of the future image. We draw it on paper, highlighting each fragment separately.

Cut out all the details of the application from cardboard.

With the help of cardboard blanks, transfer the forms to the fabric with an allowance of 0.8 cm and overcast the edges of each manually with simple stitches. The cardboard remains as if inside the fabric with an overlay.

Iron well iron eachelement so that the fabric "remembers" the shape we need.

After ironing, we take out the cardboard from the fabric and lay out the blanks on the clothes in the way they should be fixed.

Cut out small pieces from the cobweb, equal to the size of the parts from the fabric. It is important that the cobweb does not protrude, i.e. it should be slightly smaller than each of the elements.

Applying each detail with a cobweb to clothes, iron well, forming a pattern or plot.

It's pretty easy to use. For example, consider the option with a felt appliqué for children's clothes:

1. Take a solid color baby bodysuit or t-shirt.

2. Think of a suitable drawing. For starters, it’s better to choose a simpler picture. For example, a small elephant, a bunny or a flower.

3. Cut out the details needed for the appliqué from the felt.

4. For each element from the cobweb, make a slightly smaller similar detail.

5. Attach the felt withgossamer to clothing and iron through the fabric.

6. Then, using a sewing machine, sew each piece along the edge.

7. Small parts in the form of eyes, nose and mouth can be made from beads. Just sew it on top of the felt by hand.

Can I wash clothes with felt appliqué?

Since felt tends to shed when washed, it is better to wash such a product by hand at 30 degrees or in a gentle mode of the washing machine. However, it is believed that felt made in Korea, which has a more rigid structure, tolerates washing well and almost does not shed.

If you couldn't get Korean, give preference to polyester felt. Such material tolerates washing quite well even in a washing machine, practically without forming spools on the surface. The same cannot be said about felt made from wool, which can ruin both the appliqué and the thing itself when washed.

Try different ways to decorate your clothes. We are sure you will find what you like more.
