Patterns for knitting: from simple to complex
Patterns for knitting: from simple to complex

Each craftswoman, learning to work with knitting needles, goes through certain stages: familiarity with the techniques of making loops, knitting front and back, shortening and expanding the fabric. All these techniques are needed in order to create scarves and hats, socks and mittens, sweaters and dresses.

Forward to new achievements

When a knitter has practiced with small patterns and crocheted a few scarves with regular ribbing, she will know it's time to move on. To her surprise, it turns out that there is a huge number of patterns and ornaments with which you can create an infinite number of products. Each knitting pattern has its own characteristics and specifics. They should be taken into account in order to get really high-quality things.

Warning tips for tight patterns

A knitting pattern that contains only knit and purl stitches is most likely designed for solid fabrics. There will be no openwork holes here, so such ornaments are suitable for creatingwarm clothes and accessories: sweaters, pullovers, dresses, coats, cardigans, bags, pillows and blankets.

Knitting patterns with single crochet patterns require quite a lot of yarn (10-20% more than openwork). To work with such schemes, it is undesirable to purchase a thread thinner than 300 m / 100 grams, otherwise the process will drag on not just for weeks, but for months.

Knitting: openwork patterns. Schemes, samples, description

Openwork canvases are those in which there are large or small holes. They can be distributed throughout the pattern, emphasizing individual elements. In other cases, the entire ornament consists of combinations of holes of various sizes and shapes.

Almost any yarn is suitable for these patterns, except perhaps very thick.

For a craftswoman, creating openwork products is much easier than solid ones. Holes allow you to get a quick increase in the canvas and see the result of your work. This often becomes decisive for those who choose knitting. Openwork patterns, the schemes of which are densely dotted with crochets, are very popular. For example, we can name the “leaves” and “fishtail” beloved by many.

This article will describe two ornaments of varying complexity, each of them is good in its own way.

Let's start with a simpler one, modestly called "lace pattern".

This knitting pattern requires the craftswoman to be able to perform a few basic steps.

The optimal thread thickness for this pattern is 200-400 m/100 grams. Although, if desired, you can take the yarn even thinner. In this case, the finished product will turn out to be quite delicate.

Pattern repeat consists of four loops and four rows. This means that for knitting each part, you should cast on a number of loops that will be a multiple of four.

This is important: two more loops will need to be added to the resulting number (to form an edge). This is a prerequisite, relevant for anyone who masters knitting. Patterns, diagrams, descriptions and photos often miss this point, so you just need to remember about it.

To complete the pattern below, cast on 10 stitches. The description will be given for four rows, then the algorithm should be repeated from the 1st to the 4th row.

  • 1st row: 1 edge (K),3 facial loops (LP), 1 purl (RP), 1K. The description fragment fromtomust be duplicated to the end of the row.
  • 2nd row: work all loops according to the pattern. This means that in the purl row, the LP is knitted with facial, and the IRP is purl. Patterning does not occur here.
  • 3rd row: 1K,YO, work 3 LPs together, YO, RP, 1K. When reducing three loops, you should first remove the first one on the left knitting needle, then knit the next two together and thread through the previously removed one. Thus, the contraction will be symmetrical. Otherwise (if you just knit three elements at once), they will be tilted to the left.
  • 4th row: all elements are performed according topicture.

These simple knitting patterns with patterns are suitable for creating autumn cardigans, capes, ponchos, children's dresses, and a host of other similar products.

Just keep in mind that the ornament has a reverse side (wrong side), so it is not very suitable for scarves.

"Caramel" - an interesting pattern for knitting

This scheme can scare a beginner with its frightening and rather complex design. However, in practice, everything is relatively simple.

Description of symbols:

  • Arc - nakid.
  • Empty cage - LP.
  • Triangle slant to the right - two loops knitted together with a slant to the right.
  • Reverse triangle - shortening the loop with an inclination in the corresponding direction.
  • Shaded cell - no loop. This means that as a result of adding elements in the previous row, there are more loops than in the current one. The scheme looks like a table, it is impossible to completely exclude cells, so they are shaded.
  • Cross with numbers 3 or 7 - you need to insert the right knitting needle into three (or seven) loops at once and knit three (or seven) new elements from them.

First, knit a classic front loop, then yarn over and form a loop again. There are three new elements. When you need to create seven loops, you need to knit four classic face loops and three yarn overs.

Maybe the description will seem a little vague, it means that you need to pick up the knitting needles and train, referring to the instructions. Persistence and perseverance always pays off!
