With the onset of the cold season, various hats appear in the wardrobe of most people. They are bought, knitted on their own or ordered from knitters.

Today, finding a suitable model is quite easy, since there is no specific fashion for a particular headdress. Hats, snoods or berets for women can be knitted from almost any yarn, they are decorated with openwork or solid patterns, embroidery, appliqués and other decorative elements.

Material for knitted beret

Given that hats are in contact with the scalp for a long time, only high-quality yarn should be used for their manufacture. Berets for women are usually knitted from soft wool, such as merino. Sheep wool mixed with acrylic, cotton or nylon is also suitable. It is important here to use a thread that does not prick. Otherwise, the beret will cause discomfort and irritation of the skin in the forehead and back of the head.

If nevertheless the material turned out to be tough, there are two ways out ofsituations:

• Knit a beret for a woman, and then sew on the inside of a lining made of warm and soft fabric (flannel, fleece).
• Use another (non-spiky) yarn to make the girdle.

However, these techniques will not be useful when working on knitted scarves. For these products, you need to take only high quality material, as they come into contact with a large area of the skin on the neck.

How do fishnet berets fit?

There are two methods for creating berets:

1. Knitting from the center to the belt (top to bottom).
2. First doing the belt, and then the rest of the canvas (from bottom to top).
3. Assembly of a product from separately connected fragments (if crochet berets for women are created).

It should be noted that when working with knitting needles, the second method is considered the most convenient: it allows you to immediately cast on as many loops as you need for the girdle. In addition, it is easier to control the size of the canvas by reducing the loops, rather than adding. This article will describe the knitting of the spirit of berets according to the second method.

Control sample and pattern calculation

Below are different berets for women (schemes are attached to the patterns). First of all, it is worth disassembling the knitting of an openwork pink headdress.

Here, a thread of medium thickness was used, approximately 300-350 m / 100 grams. The thicker the yarn, the larger the rapports will turn out, and their number will also decrease. However, when using too thick threadsknitting will be quite rough.

To find out how many stripes of the pattern will fit in the beret, you need to knit a control sample (at least 10 cm in height and width). Measure it after steaming with an iron. For example, the density of the canvas turned out to be:

• 22 sts x 10 cm;
• 30 rows x 10 cm.

Thus, to get a beret with knitting needles for women (head circumference 56 cm), you need to dial 110 loops. For the calculation, the number 50 was used, not 56, since the beret should stretch a little.

The width of the rapport is 8 loops, so 14 openwork strips will fit in the canvas. Based on these data, you need to adjust the total number of loops:

14 x 8 + 2 (edge)=114 pieces.

Getting Started

To knit a belt on circular knitting needles, the number of loops obtained in the calculation (114) is dialed. Then, to a height of three to five centimeters, a garter stitch is performed (front loops in all rows).

Algorithm for knitting an openwork fabric:

1. When the belt is ready, start making the pattern. It is advisable to mark the entire row with markers, marking the boundaries of the rapports. True, in this ornament, purl loops can play the role of borders (in the diagram, this is a black dot in a cage).
2. In the third and fifth front rows, the fabric is expanded with the help of crochets. This is done so that the berets for women are voluminous. In the diagram, the places where new elements are formed are marked with a spindle-like icon.
3. In the seventha new symbol appears on the row: a black triangle, indicating the reduction of two loops. With its help, the pattern is balanced, since the number of added and reduced elements becomes the same. To cut two loops at once, you need to transfer the first to the right knitting needle, then knit the next two together. Then, the element obtained during the reduction is dragged through the previously removed loop. So from three elements one is obtained.

In this form, the rapport is repeated twice. Then they begin to narrow the web.

Finishing the beret

The diagram clearly shows how the rapport begins to narrow after a flat section. This is necessary in order to make it easier to finish the knitting needles for women. With a description of the final stage, the craftswoman must be careful. You should not blindly follow all the points, since the thickness of the selected yarn is of great importance. If the thread is thin, the product will turn out small. In this case, you need to knit another rapport exactly.

To narrow the beret, the designers of the pattern deliberately upset the balance of the pattern: in several places, the loops are reduced, but there are no yarns. Therefore, the canvas decreases evenly.

When two loops from each rapport remain on the needle, they are transferred to a thick thread and firmly pulled together. Then the product is sewn along the side seam, washed and dried. Hats do not need to be steamed as they become too soft afterwards.

Circle scarf

In the diagram on the right there is a pattern for knitting a small circular scarf. It also tapers slightly towards the top edge. Circumference bythe bottom should be 85-90 loops, and the top 55-60. The optimal scarf height is 25 cm.

Start and finish with several rows of garter stitch.

White beret and long scarf

The following beret model is performed according to the same principle. However, here the girdle is ribbed and there is no expansion at the beginning of the repeats (the slanted lines indicate in which direction the 2 loops should be cut).

The main part of the beret is made according to the pattern located on the diagram on the left (A.3). Its lower part is balanced, and contractions begin above. In the process of work, you need to monitor the size of the product. If necessary, you can repeat the lower part to make the beret wider.

When the pattern A.3 is completed, you should proceed to the ornament indicated as A.2. It is designed to complete the knitting of the beret. When the number of loops on the needle becomes minimal (two pieces for each repeat), they need to be put on the thread and pulled tight.

Often, berets for women are knitted together with scarves. For a classic long scarf, you can use the ornament located on the right and at the top of the diagram (A.1). It is balanced and is great for making a flat fabric, that is, it has an equal number of added and reduced loops. The standard width of such a scarf is about 25-30 centimeters, and the length is from one and a half meters.
