The beginning of summer is the time for peonies to bloom, but they fade very quickly. And so you want to admire the delicate and refined flowers both in the dank autumn and in the icy winter! Everyone can make a small miracle and make a realistic, delicate and beautiful crepe paper peony with their own hands.
A bouquet made up of such flowers will not fade and will perfectly decorate the interior in any style.
A few words about peonies
Like the Dutch have tulips, the Japanese have chrysanthemums, the peony has been China's favorite national flower for over 1,500 years. In our country, this plant is also popular and is quite common in gardens. There are several types of peonies:
- thin-leaved;
- medicinal;
- milky;
- Wittmann;
- Mlokosevich.
If you make a peony fromdo-it-yourself corrugated paper, then information about the types of structure of the flowers of this plant may be useful.
They come in:
1. Non-double (simple) - with many stamens and five or more petals arranged in one row.
2. Semi-double:
- anemone-shaped - with one row of wide petals, in the center of which are modified stamens, painted in the same color as the petals;
- Japanese - consist of wide petals (of which there are 5 or more) arranged around a dense disc with many modified stamens, usually colored yellow;
- typically semi-double - characterized by many petals stacked in two or three rows, with a large number of true stamens.
3. Terry - a flower in such plants consists of many petals. The following subgroups are distinguished:
- semi-spherical - with narrow and strongly dissected inner and wide outer petals;
- rose-shaped - as a rule, they have flowers of a somewhat flattened shape, consisting of compactly collected narrow inner and wide outer petals;
- semi-rose-shaped - very similar to the previous species, differ only in the presence of a small number of stamens in the center;
- crown - the most complex peonies in terms of the structure of the flower: wide petals are located in the first outer single row, then narrow ones; the core consists of wide petals raised in the form of a crown.
Material features
Originally wrinkled or more commonly called crepe paper was used as a lining for hats. Over time, such paper began to be used to make a variety of crafts.
There are several types of it, depending on the degree of compression and the size of the folds. To make paper flowers: peonies, hyacinths, roses and others, the so-called crepe paper is best suited, velvety, soft and delicate, with fine corrugation.
Essentials
Before you start making paper flowers, you need to prepare the following:
- corrugated white paper;
- glass container;
- food coloring in your desired colors, such as yellow and red;
- wire or wooden skewers;
- scissors;
- double sided tape;
- green ribbon or crepe paper of that color;
- hot glue gun or quick dry glue;
- floss or any other for embroidery.
Preparatory work
If you decide to make a do-it-yourself peony from corrugated paper, for greater realism it is better to take not color, but white. The latter can be painted, getting a naturalistic color of the petals. Food coloring must be diluted in water. For coloring the inner petals, you can take a more saturated red, and for the outer petals, mix yellow and red. From white crumpled paper cut out squareblanks and gently immerse in the prepared dye. When the paper is soaked, take it out and let the excess moisture drain. The resulting blanks can be dried by placing on a saucer and drying for 20-30 seconds in the microwave.
Before coloring all the petals, try painting a few blanks and see if the proportions of dyes are correct.
Making the core
While the prepared blanks dry, we make a base on which we will collect a peony from corrugated paper with our own hands.
- Collect the core of the flower: make a ball the size of a walnut from cotton wool or paper.
- Wrap a wooden skewer or pre-prepared wire with green paper or tape smeared with glue.
- On double-sided tape we stick embroidery threads, cut into pieces of 3โ5 cm.
- We fix the resulting blank on the core of the flower - as a result you should get a small yellow brush.
Collecting a flower
Before you collect volumetric peonies from corrugated paper, you need to cut out heart-shaped petals from painted blanks. Internal (3โ5 cm) should be smaller than external (5โ7 cm). To give the petals a more realistic look, use your fingers to stretch the paper both across and along and give the necessary rounded shape.
Around the finished core, starting from the inside, glue the petals until the flower reaches the desired size. Carefully straighten them so that the peony from the corrugatedpaper, handmade, looked somewhat casual, like a real flower.
Easier option
The above method requires perseverance and accuracy, besides it is quite laborious, but there is an easier and simpler way. This will require several multi-colored pieces of corrugated paper 25-40 cm long, depending on the size and color of the flower you want (for example, pink, purple and orange). To make crepe paper peonies, follow these steps:
- Lay the rectangles on top of each other and carefully fold, as shown in the photo, five to six times.
- We tie the resulting accordion in the middle with wire.
- Cut the edges of the workpiece with scissors "heart", "fence" or whatever you like. You can try to fold the part in half and cut out the desired shape, but the petals are unlikely to have beautiful and neat edges.
- Starting with the petals located in the center, lift and pull them up.
- You can give them the desired shape by stretching them both across and along the folds.
Doing with kids
Let's look at another easy way to make a wrinkled paper peony. It is suitable for joint creativity with children. From the materials you need only brightly colored corrugated paper, wire, scissors and glue.
So let's get started:
- cut fromcrumpled paper five to seven rectangles measuring 20-25x15 cm;
- we fold each of them with an "accordion", 5-7 folds each;
- gathering the rectangle folded "accordion" in the middle;
- on both sides of the paper with scissors round off the petals;
- do all these procedures with each of the prepared rectangles;
- thin wire connect them together;
- glue a wooden skewer or wire with green paper;
- attach the formed flower to the received stalk;
- straighten the petals, bending them in or out with your fingers.
Thus, it is quite easy to make crepe paper flowers step by step and decorate your home with them or give such an elegant bouquet to your loved ones.
