Firefly costume for boys and girls

Why spend a lot of money to buy a children's carnival or New Year's costume? After all, you can do anything yourself, for example, a firefly costume.

Materials

For a girl, you can make a very interesting and beautiful firefly costume with your own hands from inexpensive materials, some of which you probably have at home:

• Green tulle.
• White wide elastic band.
• Ping-pong balls.
• The bottom of two bottles.
• Light black hat.
• Gouache.
• Acrylic paints.
• Plain and chenille wire (fluffy).
• Nylon tights.
• Two liter bottle.
• Glow sticks.
• Black sleeveless dress.
• Threads.
• Beige T-shirt.
• Scissors.
• Metric tape.
• Glue "Moment".
• Fluorescent paint (optional).

Creating clothes

Firefly costume, or rather, its main part is done like this:

1. Start by creating a skirt. To do this, measure the child's waist, add a couple of centimeters and put this length on an elastic band. Sew the ends together.
2. Cut tulle strips 15 widecentimeters and twice as long as the distance from the waist to the knee of the child. As you work, you will understand how many strips you need to make.
3. Put an elastic band over the back of a chair to make it more comfortable to work. Fold the strip in half and throw the loop through the elastic band, pass the free edges through the loop, tighten. But do not overtighten so that the elastic does not wrinkle. Keep doing this until you run out of gum.



4. Cut the black dress down the center lengthwise. At the waist, sew and cut a triangular cut to this point.
5. Sew a beige T-shirt under the dress.
6. Round the bottom of the dress, and cut the back, as if dividing the fabric into two parts. The end of each part should go to the narrowing.
7. Overlay the dress around the hem.

Other

Finish the firefly costume only by adding the remaining details: antennae, wings and a glowing ass. How to make them:

1. From thick wire, form two large wings and two small ones.
2. Put nylon tights on each and tie at the beginning of the wire.
3. Paint with acrylic (big ones dark green, small ones bright green). Use silver paint to add swirls and dots.
4. Tie two loops of elastic on each arm at the junction of the wings.
5. Paint a two-liter bottle bright green. Fluorescent paint is better, if there is none, then put glow sticks inside.
6. Draw black stripes onthread of the cap and in places of the relief of the bottle.
7. Paint the ping-pong balls gold or yellow and glue them onto the chenille wire. Paint the bottom of the bottles black and glue close together on the front of the hat. From each black circle should be a wire with a golden ball.

The DIY firefly costume is ready! Look at it again, maybe you will add some details from yourself to make the image more interesting. If the terms for creating a costume are very short, then you can limit yourself to only the mustache, back and wings, and use your own clothes, for example, a black dress or a T-shirt with leggings.

For a boy

To make a firefly costume for a boy, you can use a simpler method (compared to the one described above). What you need:

• Pants, hat, gloves and black turtleneck or shirt.
• Black chenille wire.
• Two leather belts.
• Big cardboard box.
• Paints.
• Scissors.
• Wire.
• Yellow lightweight fabric (yellow dyed nylon tights can be used).
• Threads.
• Glue "Moment"
• Small glowing flashlights that work without an outlet, or glow sticks.
• Face paint.

Progress:

1. Draw wings on cardboard, cut them out. Color in black. Let dry well.
2. While the wings are drying, make the necessary shape of the antennae from chenille wire, andtwist the ends into balls. Sew or glue them to the hat.
3. If the wings are already dry, circle them with yellow paint.
4. Poke a hole in the cardboard for the belt. With it, the wings will be attached to the back. Slip the strap through the hole and each time you assemble the firefly costume, fasten the strap behind your back.
5. Shape the back of the firefly with wire, attach your chosen glowing element and wrap with cloth.
6. Insert the second strap into the pants through the front and side loops only. Attach the last made element to the back.
7. Draw black circles around the eyes.

Done!

Individual parts

To create a Christmas firefly costume, simply add tinsel. It can be tied to a belt or to wings. Replace the balls on the antennae of the insect with small Christmas toys. In general, there are no differences, but it already looks much more festive.

Based on the lessons above, you can create something new if, for example, in the version for girls, one pair of wings is not green, but black. Instead of a hat, use a headband with antennae attached to it. Chenille wire can be replaced with regular wire by simply wrapping it with a suitable cloth.

As you can see, the firefly costume is not so difficult to create, and the result is no worse than in the store. Involve your child in creating the image, then the process will bring you maximum pleasure!
