The beauty of lace is mesmerizing. Delicate curves, soft patterns, delicate work of the master - all this is aimed at making the world more beautiful, more direct and more elegant. Of course, lace weaving is a woman's prerogative, and craftswomen who create masterpieces worth their weight in gold make their models exclusive and extraordinary.
Girls and women who include openwork shawls, boleros, dresses or even swimwear in their wardrobe will never look boring, their image will certainly be feminine and a little magical, because every work made in the "lace crochet" technique, the scheme of which was drawn up individually - this is a fairy tale.
Types of lace
Tatting, ribbon lace, Vologda, Bruges, Yelets or Irish - a variety of weaving types and techniques allows you to choose a special style for yourself. And each needlewoman crocheting lace (the scheme of such lace can be chosen even for a wedding dress!), chooses something new for herself every time. After all, it is an incomprehensible mystery - to createa whole world to express their feelings, thoughts, talent, convey mood and emotions in a pattern.
Brugge lace
A completely special look that came to us from abroad, is somewhat similar to our Vologda lace. This is Bruges crochet lace, the scheme of which can even be taken from Vologda. The secret of weaving Vologda lace has been owned by craftswomen since ancient times, there is even a legend about how craftsmen tried to lure eastern (Persian kings) for large kalyms, but ancient tradition and love for the motherland made this technique unique.
To weave it, you need a large pillow stuffed with sawdust or cotton wool so tightly that the lace fabric is held very tightly on it. The merry ringing of bobbins, vivid emotions made not only the lace unique, but the very process of its creation was a kind of ritual.
Bruges lace is woven in a more accessible form, it does not require a pillow or bobbin to create it. Visually, it is very similar to Vologda. The difference will consist only in the technique of its weaving. If Vologda lace is crocheted (its pattern is called “skolok”) is only connected, and the hook plays an auxiliary role, then Bruges lace is only crocheted and woven. Another feature of Bruges lace is that you can use a thick thread for it (warm wool, acrylic, mohair), the main thing is to choose the right hook size so that the loops are the right size and the thread lies neatly. Create crochet Bruges lace, the pattern of which is in double crochets to create"vilyushki", and branches for connecting the "vilyushka" into a pattern of ordinary air loops, is absolutely not difficult even for a beginner in needlework. With the most modest skills, even a large model can be mastered.
Crochet Pattern: Ribbon Lace
Ribbon lace in the technique of knitting patterns occupies a special place and has a completely different look from the usual options. For the basis, they are taken by ribbons (depending on the pattern and thickness of the ribbon, its width is also selected), the length is chosen depending on the same parameters, in addition, it is important to take into account the length of the product itself. Floral, rounded motifs, which certainly form openwork - the basic principle of weaving products, which uses the technique of "ribbon lace" (crochet), its scheme is quite simple, it is very similar to ordinary lace.
How are the ribbons of finished lace connected?
The peculiarity of ribbon lace is that the elements of the pattern are repeated in rapports, forming the same lace ribbons. The process of their connection requires attention and imagination. The crochet pattern (ribbon lace) explains how pairs of branches are connected. As a rule, repeating motifs are crocheted to already crocheted the same ribbons in several places using knitting with air loops or sewn with a picot needle. The ribbons themselves form a common pattern in vertically arranged ribbons, but patterns can be adapted for horizontal and even oblique weaving. The ribbon lace border is very beautiful: it is used where it decorates the edge of the product.
Irish lace
One of the most beautiful options for creating wardrobe items and accessories (women's clothing, bags, sweaters and blouses) is Irish lace. The canvas of the finished product is assembled from elements (petals, leaves, geometric shapes), separately connected. A single composition looks as desired symmetrical or asymmetrical, thick or openwork.
Crochet pattern (Irish lace) is simple. To create lace, it is enough to be able to make elementary crochet loops - air and single crochet. Irish lace is formed by creating a path of air loops, which are knitted in the second row with single crochets, and then the process is repeated according to the pattern. The connections in the Irish lace elements are also crocheted using air loops or stitching.
There is another very original technique that gives things connected with Irish lace, tenderness and softness - these are brids, stitches from threads of the main color or contrasting (depending on the idea), which are hand-sewn with a needle, the seam is made in style "richelieu". You can make an openwork product on a mesh previously knitted in any way, and sew on the elements knitted using the Irish lace technique after completing the main “frame” of the work. This method is optimal for beginners. It happens that the mesh is made with a needlelace, for such a product you will need skill and patience.
How to choose a thread for crochet lace?
Depending on whether you plan to knit an openwork decoration for a wedding or a warm shawl, the thread will be cotton or wool, its thickness will also affect the choice of hook, the size of which should ideally match it so that working on a handmade masterpiece is a pleasure and looked beautiful. When creating crochet lace (its pattern will consist of air loops, single crochets, double crochets), draw inspiration from your work and enjoy the process of creating a fairy tale.
