Thousands of years ago, in the eastern countries, such an occupation as carving fruits and vegetables appeared. It originated in distant Asia and was called Kae Sa Luk. Today, various crafts made from potatoes, zucchini, eggplants, pumpkins, watermelons and other vegetables and fruits are very popular all over the world and take pride of place in the list of the most popular hobbies. The modern name for this activity is carving.

Carving can rightly be called an art: from seemingly ordinary vegetables and fruits, you can create amazing sculptures, cute figurines, unusual table decorations.

Absolutely anyone who has at least a little patience, willpower, diligence and time can go in for carving. Of course, at first, crafts made from potatoes and other “materials” will be difficult, but with time and experience, real masterpieces will turn out from them - juicy, bright, tasty and delicious.

In order for carving to bring pleasure, and the figures themselves to be neat and beautiful, you need to remember a few simple rules:

• Vegetables and fruits for crafts should be chosen very carefully. For example,apples should be with a smooth skin; tangerines and oranges - always fresh; cucumbers, carrots and potatoes - by no means sluggish; zucchini, watermelon and squash should have firm, rough skins.
• Desserts are decorated with fruit figurines; figures from vegetables are suitable for meat dishes, and figures from lemon are suitable for seafood.
• To add contrast to decorate the table, it is advisable to choose products of bright colors - yellow, orange, red, green.

Many families are happy to make various crafts from vegetables in the evenings or on weekends. Children can also be involved in this activity. Such family gatherings at home contribute to family unity, develop labor skills and creative abilities in children. In addition, while working on small details, the child develops attentiveness, there is a desire to bring the matter to the end and see the result of his work, patience and self-confidence are developed. Carving instills perseverance in children, brings up good taste and manners. The undoubted advantage of this hobby can also be considered the fact that during classes, the child can be unobtrusively explained how to properly and competently set the table, how to decorate it festively. To begin with, you can entrust the child with simple crafts, and then gradually complicate the tasks. For example, you can invite him to make crafts from potatoes in the form of hedgehogs.

For this, the child will only need potatoes and toothpicks or matches.

You can just ask the child to turn onimagination and create images of little animals, snowmen, toys, men the way he sees them. Homemade stamps are also potato crafts. They are made as follows: a potato is cut in half, a hole is cut in it in the shape of the desired stamp, then it is simply dipped in paint. Print ready.
