A fascinating card monstrosity created by Steve Jackson and illustrated by John Kovalik has been given the original name "Munchkin". The board game is a spoof of role-playing games based on the concept of Munchkins - young men acting to "defeat" and destroy all monsters rather than for teamwork or enjoyment of the role. The creation of American developers won the award as "Best Traditional Card Game" in 2001 and is a spin-off of a humorous book dedicated to such entertainment. Following the success of the first Munchkin, the game has received several expansions and sequels, and has been translated into 15 different languages.
The goal of the gameplay is to reach level 10 or 20 (in "epic" mode). Each participant, starting from one, needs to rise to a higher level by killing monsters or by other means. Other methods include selling gold coins or using special cards tolevel up. As a rule, one hour of time corresponds to one completed round of "Munchkin". The game uses only a few tools: two decks of cards and a six-sided die. But, according to the authors, their combination can turn an ordinary dull company into a hysterically laughing crowd.
Star Munchkin was released in 2002. This is a standalone version of the game and is not intended to be mixed with other decks of cards, except in the case where the player is "crazy enough to try it". The funny modification parodies, first of all, science fiction in general, and in particular "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" as outstanding representatives of the genre. Countless games like Dungeons & Dragons where the goal is nothing more than defeating as many monsters as possible - something that reminds you of Star Munchkin.
The game combines the disregard for any plans with an ironic attitude towards science fiction. In this version, you can take a partner for yourself: he will help you carry weapons, provide additional bonuses, or be able to sacrifice himself to save you from a monster. The gameplay is full of hilarious jokes and anecdotes, some of which will only be understood by big fans of this popular genre.
The artwork perfectly complements the frivolous essence of the Munchkin. The game is not least surprised by the fact that even the same cards have different illustrations - thisa minor touch was appreciated by many players. Star Munchkin is a mind-blowingly fun game that brings back a lot of memories, but the reason you can stay with it until 4 am is because of its cruel and treacherous nature. Players form alliances to defeat monsters or competitors at the table while contemplating the fastest way to reach level 10. The game is ideal for those who are close to the spirit of he althy competition between comrades.
