Who didn't make postcard boxes at school?! The most simple and beautiful crafts! Previously, their beauty was due to the original drawings, but now the craftswomen have learned to create entire masterpieces. Let's take a closer look at how to make several types of boxes from postcards, and start from simple to complex.
Rectangular simple box
For work we need:
- any cards of the same size;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- needle;
- threads (contrasting or the color of postcards);
- scissors.
Now pay attention to one more thing. If the box will stand just for beauty, then its walls can be made from two postcards. If you want to store jewelry, small things in it, then make the walls thicker and take stronger threads.
Two long walls, the bottom and the lid of the box will be rectangular and match the size of the postcard. The two short sides should match the width of the rectangle. These are the standard parts of a postcard box.
Once you have prepared all the material - 8 whole and 4 cropped postcards, then connect theminside out to each other so that the pattern is on each side. And you process each edge with a “fence” - a looped seam (nnn). Then for these overlaps all the details will be connected. Remember that the rows should be even, and for this, make the stitches the same size. To help, you can draw a barely noticeable line with a pencil.
Once all the details have been processed, now attach adjacent elements to each other and sweep over the “crossbars” of the seam. The product is ready!
How to make a jewelry box out of postcards
For this craft you need to take:
- cards;
- scissors;
- threads for crochet ("Iris", cotton);
- pencil;
- cardboard;
- fabric;
- igloo.
We sew four whole postcards with a looped seam along the edges. Next, make one square and four triangles, the side of which is equal to the length of the rectangle. Sheathe all the details and attach the triangles to the square, forming a cover.
Now cut out 5 squares from the cardboard to fit the box. Cover with fabric. Sew rectangular postcards to the sides of the box, which become convex. Wide petals form at the corners of the box. You make a pattern, overcast these details and sew to the product. The last step is to attach the lid.
Please note: the sides of the box can be made square, then you get a miniature box of postcards. The pattern corresponds to the width of the rectangle. If the edge petals are slightly bent inward, then the appearance will be different. When stitching details, you can take beads for beauty.
Figure box for beginners
Let's try to complicate the task and make a product with legs, but with a simple scheme for beginners. For work you need postcards, a pencil, scissors, a needle and thread. We make each side separately, two of them will be rectangular and two - square. At the same time, the inner postcards need to be trimmed a little so that the outer “wall” forms a bulge when stitched together.
Make blanks as follows:
- Sew two whole postcards from two long sides (you need 2 parts).
- Two squares the size of the inner width of the rectangle connect from two parallel sides (2 pcs.).
- Sew all the "walls" to the whole postcard.
- Make a lid from a whole postcard and four triangles, the base of which is equal to the sides of the rectangle.
- The legs are also designed according to the dimensions of the rectangle: strips of 2-3 centimeters are cut off, the outer side can be cut out in a figure (for example, triangular teeth or oval waves).
- Then they are sewn to the bottom of the box of postcards.
- Now make a stencil petal by measuring its length and width.
- Sew all the petals with the sides of the box.
- Fix the lid.
Tower box
For this work you will need:
- four whole rectangular postcards;
- seven squares from a postcard, the side of which is equal to the width of the rectangle;
- four triangles where the base is equal to the widthrectangle;
- eight trapezoid-shaped legs, where the top side is equal to the width of the rectangle;
- eight petals in the shape of a circle, where the diameter is equal to the width of the rectangle, and the height of the petal is the distance of the convex wall of the box;
-
one small square for the lid, the dimensions correspond to the cut of the top of the triangles.
Make the sides of the box out of postcards by sewing a square with a rectangle. You get four convex walls, which you sew with a bottom consisting of two postcards. You do the legs as follows: draw a rectangle with a square side of the desired height and then draw triangles from both ends. Determine the middle and draw a semicircle that you will cut off.
Overcast the legs and sew with the box. Next, cut off the top of the triangles at the same height. Sew all triangles to the bottom of the lid. Next, cut out a square along the base of the top and connect it with the whole part.
To make the petals the correct shape, cut out the template from paper, measuring the distance of the wall of the box. Next, connect the petals to each other and to the sides of the box. The last step is to sew the cover on one side.
Decorative box of postcards. DIY schemes
Patterns are easier to make if there is an image of a finished box. Just mentally divide it into parts and draw them on a sheet. Let's use the example of a casket in the form of a glass.
Square box shapediscussed in the previous example. Let's go straight to the lid drawing:
- draw the right size square corresponding to the side of the box;
- in its form, draw any up - triangular, oval and other shapes.
When forming the lid, the parts will close together and form a dome.
Next, form the legs, the height of which will correspond to the length of the postcard, and the width is equal to the side of the box. Now you simply cut the card along the length, making concave edges, and cut the bottom of the legs in the middle with a semi-oval. For the stability of the box, draw a square on which you measure semicircles on each side. Now you can connect the legs to the bottom and to the box.
And finally…
You can build any form of crafts: boxes of postcards in the form of a temple, a locomotive, a train, a bus, a sofa, an armchair, a tower, a bottle, a clock, a boat, a samovar. To do this, you need to make the scheme correctly.
Make an external image of the box and divide it into geometric details. On a sheet in a cage it will be convenient to see the shape of the product. At the same time, complex crafts will have main load-bearing parts and decorative ones. Learn on simple landscape sheets with glue or tape, and then reproduce everything on postcards and threads.
