Universal crochet jacket: scheme and sequence of work
Universal crochet jacket: scheme and sequence of work

Knitting a sweater for spring or summer is possible for a knitter with any experience. Let such a categorical statement not scare beginners. They do not need to strain their imagination at all and try to create the most complex masterpiece at the limit of possibilities. There are many patterns and models that are extremely easy to make and yet produce impressive results.

In order to crochet a product such as a sweater (the pattern can be solid or openwork), it is important to choose the right yarn, calculate pattern repeats and observe the specified dimensions. All these steps in due sequence will be covered in this article using the example of two products of varying degrees of complexity.

Simple rectangle top

The picture shows the simplest sweater imaginable.

It is based on a rectangle stitched in a special way. By and large, this item can be called rathercardigan. However, it can also be called a jacket. This is often done by fashionistas, taking into account that these are clothes for the top with a detachable front piece. In fact, any crochet sweater (the pattern does not matter) assumes the presence of two shelves with or without a fastener. As a rule, its length reaches the waist or slightly lower. Longer models should already be called cardigans. In modern magazines, pullovers, jumpers and even tops are also often called blouses.

In order to get a high-quality and beautiful crochet jacket for beginners (a diagram of the pattern used is given below), you need to take measurements. Must be clearly marked:

  • Product length (CI).
  • Sleeve length (SL).
  • Back width, distance between shoulder blades (SH).
  • Sleeve girth (OR).

It is also necessary to make a control sample, according to which the jacket will be calculated.

Getting Started

The chain of air loops from which the knitting of the model begins, in the finished jacket will be located along the bottom edge.

The length of the first row (like all the others, because we knit a rectangle) is equal to the planned length of the sleeve, multiplied by two and added to the width of the back (DRx2 + WB). Such an openwork crocheted jacket - the schemes may be different - plays the role of both a warm product and a purely decorative one. Its purpose depends on the pattern and the chosen yarn: wool, cotton, viscose.

Stitching and tying

The rectangle needs to be knitted beforeas long as its height does not become equal to the planned length of the product (CI). At this stage, work on the scheme stops. The part must be steamed with an iron with steam. It is necessary to act on the canvas exclusively with steam, without placing the sole of the device on it. Then the rectangle is folded along the long edge and the short sides are sewn from the open edges to the fold line. Only part of the fabric is left unsewn, the length of which is equal to half the girth of the sleeve (OP / 2).

At the final stage, the open edges of the canvas are tied with several rows of a dense pattern. If we are talking about crocheting warm sweaters (schemes are used more dense), then the strapping can also look like just single crochets. When the product is intended for use in the summer, the bar becomes an independent decoration. Often the main canvas is made with some simple pattern, and the strapping is made wide and openwork. Its upper part becomes a collar. This distinguishes both summer and warm crocheted sweaters (the schemes are different, but the model is the same).

Motif blouse

The level of complexity of such models is slightly higher than the previous one. Here the canvas is formed by stitching separately connected motifs. They come in different shapes, but for simplicity, the example with square fragments will be used. Such a crochet jacket (the pattern of the motive can be completely different) serves perfectly as a cape on a top, T-shirt, sundress or dress. Most often, the material for the manufacture of such models is cotton or linen. Although mixed types of yarn also look good: cotton with acrylic, polyamide, microfiberor nylon.

Working with motives

The production of fragments starts from the center, with three or five initial air loops, which are closed in a ring. Further, the work is done in a circle. Each row begins with lifting loops and ends with a connecting column. When making motifs, maintaining the symmetry of each element and maintaining its flat shape is of great importance. A common mistake for beginners is uneven thread tension. Knitting too tight results in a domed, raised motif, while knitting too loosely results in overly wide edges (ruffles).

Here the fragments are connected to each other, but the side seams and sleeves remained unsewn. This scheme is the most common. In fact, four large rectangles can be observed here: details of the front, back and sleeves. An interesting idea is the use of two different squares in one product. In this case, they were placed in a checkerboard pattern, but you can apply the arrangement in stripes. The front part can be detachable, then you should plan to knit a placket with buttonholes. When the seams are completed, the product looks like this.

The piping along the bottom edge and on the sleeves will give the jacket neatness and completeness. Suchcrochet summer sweater (the pattern may contain large holes or be almost solid) is very practical, it becomes indispensable during the off-season.
