Nooking: knitting technique and the benefits of this method

There are craftswomen who prefer to knit, there are those who only crochet. Both methods have their limitations: you can’t crochet patterns that are easy to crochet with knitting needles, and you can’t crochet braids or garter stitches. So it was until nooking appeared - a new generation knitting technique that allows you to crochet any patterns.

What is kooking?

This is a rather young way of knitting, combining three options for doing work:

  1. Spokes.
  2. Crochet.
  3. Tunisian crochet.

The Tunisian method uses an elongated tool with a limiter at the end, like knitting needles. This is necessary so that the fabric does not slip, because, unlike standard knitting, with Tunisian the entire product is on the hook.

Instead of three tools, you can use one thanks to the fact that nooking appeared. The knitting technique allows you to make a variety of patterns designed for both crochet and knitting needles.

How to knit

A special hook is needed to work in the nooking technique. It should not be very long, like the Tunisian, but it must have a wide eye at the end, like a needle. This is necessary in order to thread the main thread into it, on which there will be removed loops. Another feature of this hook is a sharper and narrower head.

The warp thread should be in contrast with the color of the item and be twice the width of the item.

It is threaded into the ear and fastened immediately behind it so that the knot does not cling and does not get stuck in the loops. This thread is an important knitting element in knitting style. Crochet, the technique of which allows you to create front and back loops, can fully replace the traditional knitting method.

The nooking technique came from America, where this tool is called an amazing needle for its versatility. With this needle, you can create almost any pattern, and no one will be able to tell the difference between the work done by knooking or the classic way.

Nooking: crochet, illusion knitting technique

It is called illusory, because when looking at a thing made in this way, the illusion is created that it is knitted. The appearance and texture are exactly like this production method.

Nooking usually knits small things like scarves, socks and mittens. However, some needlewomen make quite large products in this way, such as sweaters. Bythe density and quantity of yarn, such a product does not differ from the analogue made on knitting needles, and it takes less time to make it. A traditional crochet hook allows you to knit faster, but it consumes more yarn, and the product comes out denser (unless we are talking about openwork knitting).

Workflow

How does nooking start? Knitting technique:

  1. The main thread is inserted into the eyelet.
  2. A chain of air loops is typed so that they capture the contrasting thread.
  3. The product is turned over (this is one of the differences from Tunisian knitting, where work is done only on the front side).
  4. The loops on the main thread are knitted as if they were on a knitting needle. The hook with this method acts as a second knitting needle.
  5. After the end of each row, the contrasting thread is pulled out and goes to the next one.

As you can see from the description, knitting, the knitting technique of which is quite simple, combines elements of knitting and crocheting. With this method, there is no need to use additional knitting needles when knitting braids. Knooking allows you to knit a wide variety of patterns and create interesting combinations of them. If different colors are used in the work, the product turns out to be very colorful and interesting in texture.

For knitting using the knitting technique, it is recommended to select a hook with a thickness about half that recommended for traditional knitting. If it is advised to use hook No. 4 for yarn, you can safely take 2, 5.

Needlewomen, even with little experience in knitting, can take on knooking. The knitting technique, the photo of which has already appeared on the Internet, is easy enough to master and gives a lot of room for creativity. Perhaps its only disadvantage can be called the fact that our magazines do not yet publish knitting patterns for knitting. You can use knitting patterns or create your own.
