Since ancient times, people have used all sorts of materials at hand to create unique products. So, when it was necessary to occupy a bored child with something new, mothers and grandmothers easily made simple, but surprisingly cute toys from socks. The monkey, in particular, has become a kind of symbol of this unusual type of needlework. Anyone can make such a cute little animal.

Features

A do-it-yourself sock monkey made from publicly available materials will be a good gift for a child on any minor holiday. In addition, a cheerful monkey is one of the twelve symbols of the year according to the eastern horoscope. If you want to give the toy a truly original look, start with two socks with heels and toes that differ in color from the main shade of the products. From a whole pair, you can make all the necessary details of the future figure: body, legs, head, handles, tail, muzzle and ears. For needlework, a bright striped pair is well suited.

Getting Started

• Turn both socks inside out.
• Place one sock on the table with the heel down. You may have to fold the product in an unnatural way for this. If the fabric is bristling and does not want to lie flat, go over it with an iron.
• Draw a line down the center along the toe, starting at the toe and ending at a distance of 2-3 cm from the colored heel. Thus, the legs of the monkey are separated. Remember that the heel should still rest on the surface of the table, so if necessary, turn the toe over and check the desired distance. It is best to use special erasable fabric markers. Make sure that the two longitudinal halves are really the same, otherwise your do-it-yourself sock monkey, made according to these instructions, will turn out to be an easy marriage: one leg will come out thick and the other thin.
• Keeping the sock flattened, sew by hand or with a sewing machine two parallel lines on either side of the center you marked. The distance between the center line and each of the seams should be approximately 6 mm.
• Cut along the center line between the two seams with scissors. These are legs shod in colorful shoes.

Body and head

• Gradually you get a monkey out of socks. With your own hands, you can already fill the first sock of a pair with a suitable filler. For this purpose, holofiber is usually purchased, but it is also not forbidden to use an ordinary synthetic winterizeror sintepuh. The upper part of the sock, cut at the bottom, will turn into the chest and head. If you're not sure how much stuffing you can safely put in a toy, evaluate the quality of the sock. Too thin a product will not withstand dense stuffing and will stretch, eventually spoiling the appearance of the souvenir.
• Use a thread and a needle to make a head. To do this, sew the intended neck line with stitches 5 mm long. Use a fairly strong thread, as you will need to pull on the ends and narrow the neck of the figurine. Tie the ends of the thread in a knot. Stuff your head with synthetic filler and sew up the gap in the material. As you can see, even a novice master will be able to do a simple monkey from a sock; even a smart child can complete a sewing master class. At the same stage, you can make a fashionable hat for the monkey. If the upper elastic band matches the entire product in color, it is easier to make only a round head, shaping it with your fingers and sewing it along the neckline. If the elastic band contrasts in color with the main shade of the pair, you can simply cut it off with scissors (note: the final toy will become smaller in size) or turn the elastic band into an original animal hat. To do this, pinch the edge and leave the elastic band empty, without filler. At the top of the figurine, you should get an empty cone of fabric. Such an original do-it-yourself monkey from socks will certainly please the child.

Handles, ears and tail

• Draw small details of the figure on the second toe: a tail, two ears, two arms and a nose. In this case, the nose template should be located on the heel, and the tail should grab a littlearea of contrast cape. Cut out the details from both layers of the sock at the same time.
• Fold the handles lengthwise and sew up without covering the part that will unite them with the torso. Repeat the same steps with the tail.
• Fold each ear in half and cut along the fold line, then sew in a semicircle. You will have the free part through which you will fill the details for their further connection with the body of the figure.
• Stuff the resulting parts (except for the nose) with holofiber or synthetic winterizer and sew them to the corresponding areas on the monkey's body.

Finishing touches

• Sew the nose on the "face" only partially, then fill with filler. The muzzle of the monkey should protrude forward - ideally at a right angle.
• Embroider the mouth. Optionally, embroidered nostrils can be added to the muzzle.
• To make eyes, glue or sew two buttons onto pieces of white felt of the same size. Then, in any convenient way, attach the felt to the muzzle. If realistic toys are your thing, take the black buttons.
