How to build a pattern of sliders for a newborn

Still a couple of decades ago, the question of swaddling babies was not raised. All the babies were wrapped up like dolls, and it was not even a question of putting on overalls or romper suits for a newborn. Today, most new parents are abandoning "grandmother's methods" and using diapers only as bed linen. Rompers for newborns have become the most popular product for babies. Their pattern is so simple that even a beginner can sew them. And the cost of self-sewn clothes is several times less than store-bought.

In this article, beginners will find useful tips on how to build patterns for newborn sliders with an elastic band. The master class below will help you understand all the intricacies.

Materials and tools

Any soft natural linen is suitable for the product. Moreover, they can be both knitted and linen weaving. For example, calico, flannel, interlock, cooler, ribana, footer, velor and terry. Of the synthetic fabrics, footer or velsoft is most often used. Everything depends on the season. In the shopfabrics, you can find entire collections of fabrics for children's clothes of different quality.

In addition to the material, you will need an elastic band or an oblique knitted trim to process the product. Threads can be taken as standard sewing 40.

As a rule, children's things are sewn on a cover stitch machine. Very soft seams come out on it, which will not rub the skin of the child. If there is no such machine, an overlock machine or an ordinary household machine will do.

The pattern of sliders for a newborn, given in our article, is best done in the form of a template that can be easily transferred to the fabric. To make the blank durable, it is better to make it either from cardboard or from construction film.

So, how to make a romper pattern for a newborn? A master class, perhaps, will not be superfluous! All work can be divided into three stages, which we will describe to you.

Measuring

This is easy. As a basis, you can take the standard measurements of babies:

• height - 50 cm;
• bust waist and hips - 42-44 cm;
• pants length from the waist along the side seam - 32 cm;
• inseam - 12 cm.

If absolutely necessary, measurements can be changed. Let's start building a pattern.

Building a basic grid

This is understood as a drawing consisting of basic vertical and horizontal lines:

1. To do this, a vertical equal to 32 cm is drawn on paper or film.
2. Build a right angle from the top point, the horizontal of whichshould be equal to ½ of the waist circumference - this is 21-22 cm.
3. The resulting corner is closed to make a rectangle.
4. From the lower corners of the rectangle, lay off 12 cm vertically and connect the points horizontally.

The basic mesh of the baby slider pattern is ready. It defines:

• top sliders;
• medium seam level;
• bottom of product;
• left vertical of the rectangle is the side seam;
• the right vertical from the top to the horizontal at the level of 12 cm from the bottom is the auxiliary horizontal of the level of the middle seam.

Drawing details

Now draw the details:

• On the right side, the auxiliary line is drawn 4 cm beyond the border of the rectangle. This is done in order to draw a convenient step seam. If you do not make this indent on the pattern of sliders for newborns, then the panties will gather between the legs and crash into the diaper.
• A bisector is built in the resulting corner and a point is placed on it, stepping back from the angle of 1 cm.
• Further along the lower border of the rectangle, measure 6 cm and draw the inner seam of the sliders to this point.

If this is a pattern of baby sliders with an elastic band, then you need to step back about 4 cm along the upper border of the rectangle for a turn. You can also make an elastic band from knitwear. It will be much better for the baby than usual. An elastic band made of fabric will not press on the tummy and, at the same time, wellwill hold the sliders.

Also, at the upper border of the rectangle, you can draw a chest and straps to which the strings will be sewn.

Sock design

The length of the baby's foot is 7 cm, the width is about 4 cm. To decorate the sock, draw an oval 8 cm long and 6 cm wide. On the pattern of the sliders, draw a sock for the front. To do this, 5 cm retreat from the lower border of the rectangle, apply the finished foot blank to this border and circle it.

At this stage, the details of the sliders are ready!

It is worth noting that all seams must be external so that they do not create discomfort for the baby. They can be finished with bias knit, overlock or zigzag stitching.
