AU KhMAO Yugra "Ugra Chess Academy" was opened in 2010. Immediately she began to take an active part in chess life.
It was here, shortly after the opening, that the elections for the position of president of the International Chess Federation were held. And already in September of the following year, the World Chess Cup was held at the academy. The next year was also eventful for the Ugra Chess Academy. It was here that the Women's World Championship and the women's chess tournament were held as part of the Summer Universiade. In 2013, such a significant tournament as the World Rapid and Blitz Championship was held here. This list can be continued for a long time, every year Khanty-Mansiysk welcomes guests from all over the world of all ages, not to mention the large number of ongoing regional tournaments, international and all-Russian competitions.
It is worth talking about the building separately. The construction of the Ugra Chess Academy lasted two years. The well-known Dutch architect Erica van Egeraat was involved in the design. During the construction of the academy, the latesttechnology and the most modern materials, a unique combination of wood and glass was used. The building is quite original in its architecture, there are very few of them in the world. The amazing three-level structure has no corners and covers an area of more than 3,000 sq. m. and stylized as a chess piece. No wonder this building received the honorary title of "House of the Year".
Inside the building there are classrooms, a cafe, a recreation area, and there is Internet access. The tournament hall of the Ugra Chess Academy is amazing. A large tribune, capable of accommodating a large number of spectators, is assembled into ordinary shelves at one moment. The second element of the transformer is a wall that can be moved apart and separate half of the hall for meetings or conferences. At each tournament, games are commented by an invited professional, and viewers have the opportunity to receive qualified information about the current game. For this, a separate room is organized. In the computer class, the players are already analyzing games.
There is a place in the academy where they like to bring guests. In the recreation room, you will be proudly told about the famous students of the Ugra Chess Academy and shown photographs. And there is a reason to be proud: Olga Girya, Dmitry Yakovenko and many other eminent chess players defend the honor of their district at various competitions.
In the academy itself, life is in full swing. Not a day goes by that there are no competitions. Boys and girls come hereto learn something new about the great game. The coaches only help them with this, sometimes they hold sessions of simultaneous play, share their experience with young chess players. The Ugra Chess Academy has created all conditions for people with disabilities. This is more than just a chess school, it is a place for people of all ages and social categories who are devoted to their favorite game to unite.
The academy keeps up with the times, using modern technologies in teaching. As already mentioned, many students have access to the Internet right in the classroom and can use the computer class, for example, to analyze their own games with a coach. In addition, the Ugra Chess Academy practices individual distance learning with the best chess players in the district and with schoolchildren. The academy also organizes online tournaments. To make this work possible, the most modern technologies are used, for example, the Chess Education software package.
The Chess Academy of Khanty-Mansiysk during its existence has made a significant contribution to the development of chess around the world and continues to actively develop its activities.
