A simple pattern: a dress with a sun skirt is the perfect outfit for summer

Summer is exactly the time of the year when it's time to replenish your wardrobe with airy bright outfits that perfectly emphasize all the advantages and at the same time will be almost weightless so as not to restrict movement on a hot day.

The ideal option, of course, would be a dress: no belt at the waist with a lock or buttons, like on a skirt, no tight-fitting trousers that are terribly hot in, but only a light fabric that falls over the body, allowing the skin to breathe.

The hit of the season at the moment is a dress with a sun-flared skirt. It is about how to sew this model that will be discussed further.

Where to start sewing?

Experienced craftswomen will agree that the right material is already half the success. The fit, the complexity of processing, and, of course, the appearance of the product as a whole depend on the quality and texture of the canvas. Sew a dress witha sun skirt is best made from a flying and flowing fabric that does not bulge and lays down in beautiful folds. It can be crepe-chiffon, micro-oil jersey, staple, chintz, cambric. Today, stores offer a huge selection of paintings, so there are plenty to choose from. As for the colors, then it is already worth relying on personal preferences. The only thing you need to remember is that ladies with curvaceous shapes are more suitable for fabric with small prints without horizontal stripes.

Material selection

The eternal question: how much fabric do you need to buy to fit a pattern on it? A dress with a sun skirt is a rather expensive product in terms of material consumption. And it's easy to calculate. Four lengths of the skirt + the value of the measurement of the waist circumference, in order to cut a circle of the desired length, on the bottom of the product and one length from the shoulder and just below the waist for the top.

Here, the width of the roll should be taken into account. In most cases, it is 140 cm, which is quite enough for both long and short dresses. In both cases, the fabric is typed in the same way. If the skirt is less than 70 cm in length, then 2 lengths of the bottom + 1/3 of the waist circumference will be enough. In this case, two semicircles will be placed one under the other.

Selection of fittings

When the required amount of material is calculated and the type of fabric and colors are selected, it's time to think about fittings. First of all, you will need threads to match the fabric. If the canvas does not stretch, then you will definitely need to purchase a hidden zipper 60 cm long. If you plan to make a silhouette, do notfitted, and on an elastic band, then, naturally, you need a segment along the waist circumference. For decorative design, you can take a couple of beautiful buttons and cut a drop on the back or chest.

Building a template for a skirt

Another important question: how is the pattern built? A dress with a sun skirt is sewn from four parts: the front and back of the top and two panels of the skirt. To build templates for these elements of the product, it is necessary to measure the girth of the chest, waist, chest height, back width, back and front height from shoulder to waist, and the width of the opening of the bust darts. It is very easy to build a sun skirt with your own hands. On one of the edges of the material, the length of the skirt + the processing allowance of about 2 cm is laid off, then 1/3 of the waist circumference and again the length + allowance. Next, on the middle segment, you need to determine the cutout line for the waist. To do this, find the middle and, focusing on it, draw a semicircle with a radius of 1/6 of the value of the measure "waist circumference". After that, from this line on the canvas, the length of the skirt + allowances for processing the bottom are laid aside and all the marks are connected in a semicircle. The second panel is cut out in the same way. If you need a long dress with a sun skirt, then simply increase the length of the panels of the lower part of the product. Construction can be done directly on the fabric, without using paper templates.

Building a template for the top

How is the top template designed? What are the difficulties of the pattern? A dress with a sun skirt is one of the simplest products. And the upper part of it is built as simply as the bottom. For this part of the dress you will needpaper template, so you will need several A4 sheets. They are connected so that it is possible to draw a rectangle with sides equal to the length from the shoulder to the waist along the front and chest girth value. Immediately determine the line of the chest in accordance with the height of the chest. On it, on one side, half the width of the back is marked. On the opposite side - half of the tuck solution. Next, the armhole area is determined, which is equal to ¼ of the half-girth of the chest + 2 cm. Then, from the upper corners of the drawing, the neck area and shoulder seams are marked, lowered by 1.5 cm to the edge. On the front half, a perpendicular is raised from the mark of the tuck solution and a tuck is drawn along the shoulder line (a few centimeters retreat, a pinch mark is placed and lowered to the starting point. In this case, the shoulder seam will need to be extended by the same number of centimeters. Then it remains only to draw the armhole lines for the front and back. If you wish, you can make waist darts. If this dress is for a child, then darts are not needed at all. And this will be the simplest pattern. A dress with a sun skirt can be sewn by building the bottom of the product directly on the fabric, and make the top template according to the T-shirt baby.

Product assembly and processing sequence

When all the elements of the cut are ready, you can start sewing. First, all the tucks of the shelves are closed, then the shoulder seams are connected. To make the product easy to put on, it is made with a zipper either on the side or on the back. In the latter version, the details of the back and back panel of the skirt will need to be cut strictly in half. Top andthe bottom is connected in series: first, the top and skirt are completely sewn together, and then they are connected along the waist line. Sewing a sun skirt with your own hands is very simple: they connect the side seams, and insert a zipper into the back slit.

Quite often, an elastic band is inserted into the traveling seam. And if you make the top wide enough (this will not spoil the look if you use a flowing, light fabric), then the zipper will not be needed.
