Microwave is the favorite "projectile" of home-grown experimenters. What they didn’t put in it: phones, light bulbs, bags of chips and CDs. Soap did not escape this fate. In the microwave, as it turned out, it can behave quite decently. You just need to know how to direct the energy of electromagnetic waves in the right direction.

What happens to soap in a microwave oven?

Food in the microwave is heated by the action of electromagnetic waves on water molecules, which are contained in almost all products. Moisture is also present in soap, which means that when you put it in the oven, something must happen. Indeed, numerous videos from the Internet teach us that if you put a whole piece of soap in the microwave and set it to high power, a lush foam cloud will soon form inside the oven. This happens because the water that is present in the soap in a liquid state boils and turns into steam. The steam tends to escape and the solid structure of the soap is broken.

I must say, the foam cloud looks spectacular. But you need to understand that the experiment can be fatal for the oven if moisture gets into the holes on its inner walls.

Microwave soap: can it be made into something useful?

In general, putting a bar of soap in the oven can lead to sad consequences, especially if it contains additives of unknown origin: who can know how they will react to electromagnetic waves?

But the microwave, as it turned out, is ideal for melting remnants in order to turn them into designer soap. True, to create something worthwhile, you have to practice a little.

In addition to remnants, you will need: a microwave-safe bowl, cling film or silicone lid, some water or milk, a knife or grater, and extras, if desired.

Melting technology

Let's take a closer look at how to melt soap in the microwave without serious consequences.

First of all, grate the remnants on a grater or cut them (the smaller, the more evenly and faster they will melt). Shake them into a heatproof vessel, pour in some hot water or milk, and cover the chips with a silicone lid or cling film to prevent moisture from evaporating. Put the dishes inside the microwave, set the power to high (600-800 W) and turn on the oven for 30-45 seconds. During this time, the mass will not melt completely. Stir it and put it back in the oven, but this time for 15 seconds. Towhy such accuracy? The point is that the soap should not overheat. The optimum temperature for it is 60-65°С.

Repeat the procedure until the mix becomes viscous and homogeneous. Then additives (essences, glycerin, dyes, oils, etc.) can be poured into it and placed in the oven for another 15 seconds. Ready! Soap mass can be poured into molds pre-lubricated with olive oil.

What to look out for

If you've never melted soap in the microwave before, read this section carefully.

1. There should be no laundry soap bars in your mix as it smells. When heated, the “aroma” intensifies, and the microwave oven “preserves” it well. The same goes for other "smelly" bases.

2. It is very important to maintain the correct melting temperature. This can be done with a liquid thermometer. Make sure that no bubbles form on the surface of the mass, indicating boiling. Overheated soap dries out quickly and loses its ability to lather.

3. Add all additives (we will discuss them below) at the last stage of melting (to avoid smell). Recall: you cook soap in the microwave from remnants, that is, individual pieces, each of which has its own color and smell. If the use of additives is not planned, all components should be well combined with each other in these parameters.

Microwave soap: how to make an original product

Using your creative mind, you canmake more interesting and attractive products than simple soap bars, which have a purely utilitarian function.

So, to create a multi-layered soap, you need to sort the pieces by color, place them in different containers and melt them (or melt the whole mass, and later divide it into several parts and paint each separately). It will be necessary to pour the bases of different colors into the molds sequentially so that each layer has time to grab.

For "marble", that is, decorated with stains, soap, you also need a base of several matching colors. You can only pour it into the forms arbitrarily. In addition, you will not need to wait for the complete solidification of each fill. It will be enough that it thickens slightly. As a result, you will get a beautiful bar with patterns.

And finally, you can make "confetti" - transparent soap with large colored fragments inside. To do this, coarsely chop the remnants, distribute them in a mold, sprinkle with alcohol and pour in the melted base.

Supplements

To make soap elegant, fragrant and he althy, additives are used: essential oils, food colorings, glycerin, essences. Don't overdo it (the oven absorbs odors) and never mix too complex. If you are making multi-colored soap, spray the base with alcohol more often when pouring into molds. This is necessary so that the masses of different colors stick together firmly.
