In this case, it is best to sew a jumpsuit for the dog with your own hands. This is not at all as difficult as it might seem at first glance. The job will require minimal skills in cutting and sewing. The pattern of dog overalls is quite simple, and you can use almost any fabric, for example, use an old unnecessary jacket or raincoat.

Let's try to sew a jumpsuit for a small dog with our own hands. Overalls for dogs of large breeds are sewn according to the same patterns (taking into account the size, of course), but to the part that is intended forbelly and chest, you may have to sew on a pair of elastic bands. And you should also make sure that your product does not restrict the movement of the animal.

Where should I start?

So, we need a dog overalls pattern. First of all, let's take measurements. Don't be afraid - you won't have long laborious measurements. The sizes of overalls for dogs depend, basically, only on one parameter. This is the length of the back of the animal from the beginning of the neck to the base of the tail. At the same time, we place the centimeter tape exactly along the line of the vertebrae. After measuring, we divide the found number by 8. For convenience, the jumpsuit can be equipped with handles for holding an excessively frisky pet and even pockets, inwhich these handles can be hidden. To accurately adjust the size of the product, insert a thin cord into all seams.

Overalls for a medium dog, as well as for a small one, can be made one-piece, while the processing of the seams will be minimal. This model is best suited for dogs of different sizes with a "square" silhouette. The length of the legs, if you plan to sew them on, should be adjusted according to the height of the pet.

How to find the starting point of the neck? Put a collar on your dog and measure from there. In this case, the collar should not be tightly tightened.

Since our jumpsuit is a symmetrical product, the pattern should be done for only one half, placing it on the fabric with a fold. You need to connect the parts according to pre-set marks in the form of crosses or dots to avoid skew.

It can also be made on an elastic band or even with a visor, which is cut out of two parts (upper and lower), turned outward and the rounded part is processed with a border seam. Subtleties of tailoring technology

When sewing "clothing for the dog" should take into account some of the nuances. When drawing a sleeve pattern, be aware that it is very similar to a human clothing sleeve pattern, both for front and hind legs.

The top of the armhole of the sleeve must pass through the hip (upper) joints of the dog's paw. If you break this rule, the sleeves will slip, which is very inconvenient for the dog. Make sleeves and pants spacious, about twice as wide as the paws. But the jumpsuit itself should fit snugly to the body and not fidget. However, for dogs of large breeds, this rule is not strictly observed.

The bottom of the pants is made at a height of one or one and a half centimeters below the knee joint. Otherwise, the foot will constantly fall into the trouser leg. Especially if your pet strives to constantly demonstrate a hunting stance - this is how terriers often behave.

The clasp must be reliable so that at the most unexpected moment the dog does not suddenly turn out to be undressed.

In addition, it should be combined with the overall style of the outfit. Remember that Velcro is not suitable for long-haired dogs, and buttons are very uncomfortable.

Don't forget to sew on a fastening on the dog overalls, to which the leash will be fastened. One ring stuck into the neck is not enough here - with a jerk, the dog will simply jump out of the neck, leaving the overalls on a leash. You will need to make a design like a harness by sewing a strong braid into the fabric around the chest and paws. The leash should be attached to her.

Knit dog overalls

If you do not want to bother with taking accurate measurements, you can use elastic fabrics - knitwear, angora. They are easy to cut, do not require careful fitting and look very elegant. The only problem is sometimes slice processing.

How to knit a dog sweater?

The sweater is a one-piece knitted fabric with elastic bands on the neck and back and holes for the paws. We start knitting from the neck. We collect about 54 loops and knit from 6 to 8 centimeters with a simple elastic band. The volume can be clarified by first tying the sample and measuring the girth of the neck along the collar. Knitting continues from neck to tail.

Below the neck, we begin to knit the "chest" part, switching to facial knitting and adding a couple of loops on both sides every few rows. Having connected about 5 cm, we move on to the part in which there are holes for the paws.

To do this, we divide the knitting in width into three parts in proportion to the size of the "client" and then (for about five centimeters) we knit the overalls for the dog in three separate parts.
